Female jockey has settled right in at Hastings

Judging by her upbeat smile and confidence around horses, new girl in town Stephanie Fedora should fit right in among horsemen and fans at Hastings racetrack.

Just as her predecessor Nicola Wright showed a few years back, with the right attitude and chutzpah, you can be as good as any of the boys you are competing with on a daily basis.

Fedora began her jockey career at Ajax Downs in Ontario, riding sometimes unruly and cantankerous quarterhorses. Tiring of that, she moved her riding tack to Woodbine racetrack and won her first race on Queen's Plate day.

Font:****After winning six races at a racetrack where over 100 jockeys are hustling for limited rides, Fedora decided it was time to move on.

"I knew jockey agent Trapper Barroby was returning to Vancouver," she said. "After talking with him, he suggested giving Hastings a chance. I knew Trapper worked hard and thought I would do well here."

When it was time for her first race, Fedora entered an all-male Hastings jockeys room with a smile and the self-assurance befitting a journeyman rider.

"My first thought was this is great. I am the only girl," said Fedora.

"That is a great feeling and what a great confidence builder that is. How do you even describe it?

"I had been the only girl rider in Chicago. I guess I learned there how to handle myself among men. I enjoy being one of the guys even tough I am female."

Fedora's room is equivalent to those of her male counterparts.

"I enjoy my space in there because this is where I have a chance to study racing forms and watch race replays. It is important to learn about the horses you are riding."

STRATEGY BEGINS

Casino Drive, the most coveted Triple Crown horse next to Big Brown, now has a jockey for the June 7 Belmont Stakes, Hall of Famer Edgar Prado.

Prado has ridden in eight Belmont Stakes with victories aboard Sirava (2002) and Smarty Jones (2004).

PROGRAM NOTES

Saturday at Hastings popular actor/singer Steven Seagal, an ardent horse racing fan, will be on hand for a race named in his honour. And the $50,000 Senate Appointee card has drawn an outstanding field, including Holy Nova, Yourock Gal and Napa.

Thanks Suzi for that news..i do bet on the horses from time to time mainly big races and have bet on over seas races iam going to find out from my local betting shop today if i can have an bet on these three horses..no harm in finding out..

Bummed out!!! Here in aussie they are not televising this race at the TAB..or on bloody line for that matter how stupid we televise reaces from Japan, Ireland, England, New Zealand , Africa mind you they do televise the Kentucky Derby which is an great race ..

I know out of those three horses picked above i was going to pick be interested in it came any where..i picked YOUGOGAL...

Just to let others know we have had female jockeys racing here for an while and they are quiet good..put the guys noses out of joint though..aint that an shame..

I was always wondering, when did he sleeps ? He is a big traveller and hope for him the people will invent teleport for Steven :) His awesome !!!

I can't invent the teleport but I can offer Him a place to park where He can walk to the Race Course from my office in Saratoga Springs. I would think He likes Horse Racing.

After the Triple Crown there is Saratoga and that is where He should be this August.

If we met I could tell Him that He should have a new movie called His Ways that will be a lifetime achievement showcasing His total Ways. I think this would be easy to write due to His talents and just how we all think of His Ways.

In another thread we speak of His Ways and wouldn't it be nice if He put some of our thought into the new His Ways Movie. He could use Saratoga as a base of operations due to our many movie locations here already in many movies.

I wonder if anybody knows these movies.

Hi TigerFeet thank you for the big!

I read an article in The Business Review out of Albany, NY.

Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, bought a 106 acre horse farm there, a Dubai company buys Fasig-Tipton, the revered throughbred auction house that has Saratoga operations.

This should up the profile of the Spa City as a horse mecca.

So He comes to Saratoga to park close to the Race Course at the prompting of a fan. He walks to the Race Course and gets involved in this Dubai situation that leads Him around the World where he uses all His Ways.

The movie starts in Saratoga Springs and ends at the fan's parking lot asking Him if he had a good day. He says you know I did I used my Ways.
End

Life imitates art again and He uses His Ways.

Well Chef Jim, I think you should contact Seagal's "people" with your idea. You never know, he might go for it!

Hi Tigerfeet,

That would blow me away. My life has been behind the big picture. THings have never happened my whole life. I like to think I have great ideas then nothing ever happens.

I got close once and had it all ready to go and found out I needed an agent to even be considered. I dropped the whole thing because that was not my way. I am sure if He sees this He will use His Ways to make it happen His Way. I just enjoy the satisfaction of thinking about it. the fact that you think it is possible says you may be interested as a fan in a movie called His Ways based out of Saratoga Springs, NY and Dubai centered around Horse Racing a Sheikh and a fan and of course Him and His Ways. Just awaiting His go order to start. Please be aware that August Racing Season is NOW.

P.S. Everybody is invited to come to Saratoga Springs for the horse racing. Perhaps we can walk to the Race Course together and think of Him and the way He might use His Ways in the movie of His Ways.

Hi again Chef Jim:

Getting an agent is not that hard, and a good, reputable agent WILL NOT charge you any fees unless they place your work. And, they will get you a way better deal than you would get negotiating on your own.
You should be able to find an agent in your area. Check online for literary agencies, or in the phone book.
Personally, I really think you are on to something here. Let me know if you decide to pursue it! I have spent the last seven years learning about horses and an comfortable around them, so I would of course love to be an extra, preferably in a stable! :D

OR no ilost a lot of money last month when i bet my years savings and the comapny payrloll (gona get in trouble for that soon LOL) on the hubbegaubbers at the races! I bet my entire fourtune and some company money whith the hope of findiing financialo glory. My dreams are shutterd, so seeing this topic was very disheartening. Ill pull through i guress but ill have to live on cheap noodles for a while LOL and explain to my boss what happened to the payroll, heh :cool:
