Have a little faith, mate.
He could turn out to be the director the last one wasn't. lol

I was referring to the decade of the eighties in general and was'nt meaning 2 decades to the day and year..
Anyway I hope Seagal makes a few good films before this Khan crap comes out because if it is made by this guy his career will be over.

His career will be over if he makes Genghis Khan, no matter who the director is likely to be. No good can come of this. It's simply ridiculous for him to think he can play Genghis Khan. It's wrong on so many levels, I can't begin to count them all.

Didn't Oliver Stone pass away a few years ago?
I am probably mistaken, and hopefully so because I think he's done some good stuff...

Steven undoubtedly wants Khan to be his Braveheart but something tells me it will be his Battlefield Earth.

My thoughts exactly.

You know, one thing is interesting - Genghis Khan is one of the films he reneged on doing with Nasso, back when he decided he wasn't going to make any more movies after The Patriot (allegedly, of course). Of all those, with the exception of Prince of Central Park which was produced, why did have have to pick *that* one to resurrect....

I Belong To Steven
He's studied about Khan for years I believe...I think he feels this is a very artistic endeavor, that's my opinion anyway...And I understand this...I am very afraid that the critics might tear this film to shreds, which I know would break his heart, but still doesn't mean he shouldn't do it for himself if he really wants to...I don't think he really gives a crap, he knows that whatever floats his boat is what really, truly matters...I admire him for pushing those narrow minded jerks aside and not letting them dictate his descisions, even if there is a chance it wouldn't go well, as with anything, you can't predict the outcome of a film 100% of the time, but he's got the guts to follow his desires, and I really respect that...Whatever he decides to do in regards to this movie is ultimately his choice...But to see this film would make me very proud, and I think it's an really exciting project, personally...
It could be very artistic and historical and he would be magnificent in the costumes and makeup, of course...
I wish him success, and I will embrace his innovative ideas now and always, even if the idiot critics or the 'so called' fans, don't...

Disciple

come get some
Great post, Lotussan.

I look forward to Sensei playing Genghis Khan. He has the charisma and menace to make it work, just like John Wayne did back in the day. He certainly believes in this project as much as Mel Gibson does in his "pet" projects like Braveheart.

Of course the critics are going to tear this film to shreds, and deservedly so. A Caucasian playing the role of an Oriental, especially this role, is never a good idea even with the best of intentions. The ONLY person I can see in the role of Ghenghis Khan is Chow Yung Fat. There might be others, but I can't think of them off-hand.

An almost at death's door director like Ken Annakin - yikes, I just checked IMDB and he's the same age as my father! - who hasn't done anything significant in the last twenty years and whose directorial credits lean mostly towards absurd comedies is not the person to do the job, either. (I was right about the "Flying Machines" movie - he was indeed at the helm of that film.)

A project of this magnitude needs a top-flight script, an excellent actor in the role and someone who knows how to direct epics, or at least be able to tell a story coherently. Knowing what two of the three requirements have been filled with, this film can't be anything BUT a disaster.

Steven's performance in the roles he has played are what he is tolerably good at, but by no stretch of the imagination can he be called an "excellent" actor. His even considering playing the role is more of a testament to his ego than good sense, which he doesn't seem to be exhibiting much of, of late.

It's because I so enjoy (most of) the movies Steven has made that I wish he wouldn't do this one. This is the kind of film that would effectively not only destroy his career and any future film projects, but it would be so overwhelmingly bad that it would cancel out everything he's done before.

Just because he wants to, doesn't mean he should. I really wish he had a business partner of strong enough character to tell him "no - bad idea". But he doesn't, alas.

I still cannot get over or fathom the idea of this almost a century old guy who has'nt ever done anything worthy of mention signing on to direct a 40 million dollar epic on Khan. Can this guy still stand up or see? I'm sorry but this has got to be someone's bad idea of a joke..I mean Annikan must be thinking he won the jackpot to be back and directing any kind of movie..
This is funny but very sad..and did you guys see the reviews for that piece of crap- "The new adventures of Pippi Longstocking"..
I can tell you this: there wont be any US distributor or this film..If this guys directs it I hope we never see it and it never see the light of day..
