Hello.....sorry I haven't been around much..I popped in the other day and this thread caught my eye...so I figured I'd jump in this one..I normally let things flow...this one sparks my interest tho'....
hope you are well.
Yes, thank you. Moved into a new apartment three weeks ago and I'm living in a sea of boxes, hence a bit frazzled because I can't find things, because things haven't found their place yet!
It's good to see you back, even if only for one topic!
what sources(if I can ask)?
again...who is "they"????
"in creation" or as many use"under construction'..testing and seeing if this link or image works; etc.
Aikidonna's got a contact who says this is the official site that we've all been waiting for, or words to that effect, and oh, by the way, please make sure you buy Steven's products.
(Makes me think the webmaster just bought a franchise in Steven's products and is trying to make a buck by hawking them.)
As for "in creation" and testing to see if this link or image works - that's what test sites are for!
Even I know that, and I do mostly content and am the occasional guinea pig for testing sites in development.
I'm just barking about the whole unprofessional feel to the thing, I guess. Just because they didn't do it my way - ahem - doesn't necessarily make it wrong. It's just not the way I would have done it, ESPECIALLY for a client of Steven's stature (no pun intended).
well under the normal circumstance..yes....a company would normally grab up their affiliated domain name..I mean if you wanted to communicate with people thru the internet you surely would take the ".com" name...but as I stated and see...it was up for grabs....
That's what I said at the time the original site went down and the lease expired. If no one among Steven's crew were on the ball - and it appeared at the time they weren't - it wouldn't take much for a squatter to snap it up and wait for the ransom money.
the thing about the CD....as far as I remember, the CD itself was completed years ago but was 'shelved' by Sony at the time(I'm just speculating that it may have been due to the ill recieved Half past Dead film...perhaps not...tho for example ..let's say HPD was a blockbuster of some kind..I'm sure Sony would've put it out at that time to cash in further).
if you have the CD(I don't) is there a year printed on the cover???
You'll have to ask Tiggy or suzi about that - I think they've both gone over the covers and inserts with a magnifying glass!
Does that explain why it's only been released in France so far? I wonder if it's a rights issue in North America that it hasn't been released here yet. I'm not sure how music rights work, if they're anything like book publishing rights. Who owns the property, for example - Steven or Sony?
I agree and was trying(as you) to point that out so perhaps people didn't get dissapointed in what Seagal's people were presenting to the public(because I it's not).
Steven's got some strange people around him, though. They could think this site's the bees' knees, or summat.
I'm not even going there....with that "comeback to the big screen" one unless I need to.
Yeah, well... we'll see what we'll see.
some of it(the little I've seen is inaccurate also)..nevertheless..web-sites usually like to give credit to where it's due; name their sources or have a copywrite acknowledgement at the bottom of the page(which wouldn't fit for this site).....it's really a matter of respect for others and not any kind of legal issue.
Again, it's the whole totally unprofessional, slap dash feel to the thing.
it's only embarrassing if one does not see it for what it is.....otherwise I have no problem with the site..anybody that does web design knows we all started in the same way....trying this and that..learning by mistakes...seeing what will fly and what doesn't.....most just don't start by using a celeb domain address......I just think they/him/her need to state that....so as to not mislead people that it's some kind of representation of Seagal and his interests....that's all.....unless that is their intention.(which would be in total opposition of Seagal's beliefs....I really don't think Seagal has walked his path all these years just to get to the point of purposely mis-leading people directly or indirectly..I think if he actually saw it..he'd tell his people to get the domain name back...whether they put anything on it or not.....as many companies did in the early internet years...just obtain the domain just to stop this kind of thing..so there was no misrepresentation.)
I'm convinced whoever's working on the site is reading this thread. There was much bitching about the awfulness of the background in the message board, and, hey, presto! Miraculously, it was changed.
Others have observed there's no section on aikido, which just sends up another red flag. A man spends more than half his life studying a discipline, and an official site goes up with nary a mention of it? (Unless he's set aside aikido, forever, which is also a possibility.)
yeah..."flash" design was still basically new to many at that time...now that I think of it...I had many of the SWF files captured from the original site because I had a feeling it would shut down one day the way things were going...you could see it coming(which is what happened.)
I wonder what happened to the old site? Would the original designers still have it?
again...that is really just a matter of what people choose to see.
good discussion...wish I stopped in earliar...
and again I have no ill feelings towards the site...just the lack of responsability(they may not even be aware if it)..most we can do as supporters of Seagal is help the site...my 1st suggestion would be to drop the bulletin board as soon as possible...finish the graphics and the layout as a priority...get the images resized correctly; links corrected...drop the copywrited photog images.etc,etc..you know get the basics done first...then add the message board(forget the bulletin board format)..the site will come along in time....guy is probably working alone on it learning as he goes....takes time that's for sure.
John
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, John! Yes, you're right about the learning curve. I'm still stumbling around, even working just on content (I have to do my own coding). Somebody asks me to design a website, I will, of course, accept the job - and then hire a sub (i.e., my business colleague's son, who's a whiz) to do the job right!
