'Lost' and pound: Mitchell drops 40

LIGHTENING UP: The Elizabeth Mitchell you see on "Lost" is 40 pounds lighter than the Elizabeth Mitchell you'll see on "The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause" when that Tim Allen comedy opens Friday (11/3). "I did the movie when I had just had my baby, so it was fun," notes Mitchell. Her Mrs. Claus is on the verge of giving birth to Baby Claus in the movie, so the actress' extra weight wasn't a problem. She tells us she didn't diet to lose the post-partum pounds. "I can't diet. I need the energy," she says. "The weight all comes off. I really believe that. Your body gets back to where it wants to be. I think it's working 16 hours a day and just trying to eat well."
URBAN SENTIMENTS: Country music's hottest women showed up in Hollywood the other night for the taping of the Nov. 18-airing "CMT Giants" honoring Reba McEntire -- but many had Keith Urban on their mind after he recently checked into rehab for problems with alcohol.
"I know Keith so I've sent him my well wishes," Faith Hill told us, before fellow singer Dolly Parton chimed in. "I love Keith and I'm sure he's going to be just fine. He's

very passionate and very deep and it's easy to get off track when you feel so many things. He'll be back soon," assured Parton with a smile.
Deana Carter, who was hanging with her high school friend, James Denton of "Desperate Housewives," had the same sentiment. "I know that he's going to be fine. He's just going through a tough spot right now. We all go through them. He's just in a lot more public position right now so he's in the spotlight with what he's dealing with. I love him, I have faith in him, and I pray for him."
It wasn't long before all attention was turned back on the legendary McEntire, who sat with her family as Kelly Clarkson, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes, and Wynonna Judd sang some of her most famous songs. Faith Hill, who also performed on the show, told this column, "In more ways than I could possibly speak about tonight, Reba has paved the way for so many female singers. Not only has she paved the way, but she also continues to create paths for us to walk down because she does so much. She's the classiest lady I know."
AND: Mitchell was back from Hawaii — where she and husband Chris Soldevilla and son Christopher Jr. have relocated for the duration of "Lost" — to be on hand for the "Santa Clause 3" premiere over this past weekend. She tells us, "I wasn't a part of that action," when the subject of Tim's being fined every time he swears while dressed in Santa gear on the set comes up. "I'm not much of a swearer. Neither is Martin," she says of Martin Short, who plays Jack Frost in the flick. "But I think some of the Legendary Figures — that might have been a big-money day for fines."
Jay Thomas, who plays one of those figures, the Easter Bunny, concurs. "The Easter Bunny is very bad. There are so many openings for naughty words when you've got the outfit on," he points out. Referring to Ann-Margret, who plays Mitchell's mother in the movie, he adds, "Now, Miss Ann-Margret — I became enamored of her, and I bothered her quite a bit, as you can see by the end of the movie. I wanted her to carry 2,200 of my children. I already have over 30,000 offspring — all in private schools." Which is why he hops to it when it comes to work. Seriously, the former "Love & War" and "Murphy Brown" actor is focusing his energies on his Sirius Satellite Radio show these days.
THE INSIDE TRACK: Gwen Stefani snagged super producer/songwriter Sean "The Pen" Garrett to do the last song on her new album. And that took some doing because the four-time Grammy nominee — dubbed "The Pen" by hip-hop mogul Jay-Z — has been working nonstop.
"I did a crazy record for ("American Idol" winner) Fantasia," says Garrett. "I got the next single called Hell No' on Monica's new album. I'm working with Twist on Eve's new CD, and I did a tune called Bang It Up' on Ciara's album."
The Atlanta-based artist, who's penned/produced such hits as "Yeah" for Usher and "Good Woman Down" for Mary J. Blige, has remained at the top of the charts in recent months with Beyonce's "Ring the Alarm," Fergie's "London Bridge" and Pussycat Dolls' "Buttons." And now, he says, Nicole of the Pussycat Dolls is about to drop her own solo album. "Her new project is crazy, crazy," declares Garrett. "We're doing something a little different on her, and the first single is going to be an eye-opener."
VIDEOLAND VIEW: When "Two and a Half Men" talks about a "very special" Christmas episode, they're not kidding. They have Steven Seagal coming onto the Charlie Sheen-Jon Cryer show as guest star in the soon-to-shoot episode, which you've just got to know will be touching. Wonder if he'll beat anybody up.
