The Middleton Place Foundation located outside of Charleston SC

The Middleton Place Foundation was created in 1974 to ensure that Middleton Place would be preserved and interpreted for future generations. Today the Foundation owns and operates Middleton Place National Historic Landmark and administers the Edmondston-Alston House in downtown Charleston.

The Middleton Place Foundation is an educational, non-profit, tax-qualified 501 (c)(3) organization. Admission fees, donations and membership fees help preserve and interpret Middleton Place and the Edmondston-Alston House.

The Middleton Place Foundation mission statement
…to sustain the highest levels of preservation and interpretation for the collections and programs of the Middleton Place National Historic Landmark, its Gardens, House, Plantation Stableyards and affiliated properties such as the Edmondston-Alston House Museum.

The House Museum, built by Henry Middleton in 1755 as a gentlemen's guest quarters, is the only surviving portion of the three-building residential complex that once stood overlooking the Ashley River. The House contains one of the finest collections of family-owned artifacts. Expect to see Middleton family furniture, paintings, books and documents dating from the 1740s through the 1880s. Guided tours of the house introduce visitors to the men, women and children who made Middleton Place their home for over two centuries.

Middleton Place looks beautiful, Lollipop! :) I love to tour places like this. I'd love to see the horses, too. Is this anywhere near the Biltmore Estate? I may be going there this year. If they're not too far from each other, maybe I could cover both.

Thanks for the pics! I'm going to get some of Mackinac Island in here now.

I've been to Mackinac Island many times over the years. It's located between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan and is a lovely place to spend a long weekend. People come from all over the world to visit this quaint, historical island, especially during the annual Lilac Festival the end of May. It was the second National Park, and the first State Park in Michigan. The Grand Hotel, one of the most famous attractions on the island--and the most expensive hotel :D--was where the movie "Somewhere in Time" with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve was filmed. The island is almost famous world-wide for its fudge. :D It's a beautiful place to visit and I highly recommend it. :)

Mackinac Island is the truly "all natural" theme park of America. Limited to transportation of horse and buggy, bicycle or foot, surrounded by water, it has escaped the vast changes of time.

Its real Victorian image is preserved and enhanced by a small population of 500 permanent residents and scores of summer residents, maintaining bluff cottages in original state. Families, especially children, love their relatively new found "mobility", exploring the historic, natural beauty of Mackinac Island State Park, honored by National Geographic as one of the ten finest in America.

The calendar of events on Mackinac Island is highlighted by the Annual Lilac Festival, climaxed with one of the largest "All Horse Hitch" parades known. The American Bus Association has designated Mackinac Island's Lilac Festival as one of the nation's top 100 tourist attractions.

The residents are warm and friendly, even during the Island's brief but unique winter holiday and cross-country season. Prices are best in winter, spring, and fall, of course, but the enjoyment level never fails to put new perspective into the concept of relaxation.

When you step off of the Island Ferry Dock, you will be in a living Victorian village. Please cross streets on straight angles rather than diagonally and be aware of horses, bikes and people stepping off of carriages, enjoy the downtown hustle and bustle of the early 1800s but don't miss the beauty of the Island's interior and peaceful lakefront perimeter path. Once you've visited our beautiful Island, you will find that it is your Island, too. We look forward to your return many times in the future.

haha

I can watch that fantasy unfold via that toy. :D
Now, I think if I get a hot tub and place that tv right beside it, it would be a better setting for Ashley. :D She's always invited, you know.

A hot tub, a TV and sound system like that--and you? You'd never get rid of her. ;) :D

Smile dammit!
I remember Serena saying ages ago no cars on the island. How refreshing! It would be great to go around by carriage,
