I said it before and I'll say it again since Seagal has given up on making solid action movies, this is the only guy that I can watch in an Action Flick...

Crank was the best movie he has made yet, yeah its over the top, yeah its totally irresponsible but you know what its damn good, and people who think action movies are mindless can't help but love this guilty pleasure!

A RATED R ACTION MOVIE FINALLY!! And no pretty Tom Cruise/Matt Damon/ or Wu Shu ballerinas!!(Sorry J.L fans), to make me go PLEASE anyone could beat these fools up.

A few of the scenes in the movie are as close to old school Seagal as we're gonna get.

Opened 2nd place with an R rating I figure its going to keep escalating, over the holiday wknd, and fighting good competition- Wicker Man, Invincible..

CHEERS STATHAM!
Keep up the badass movies.

Crank star, Jason Statham...........
Here's what I found on IMDb.
(and you can take that for what it's worth!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"He has been an Olympic Diver on the British National Diving Team and finished 12th in the World Championships in 1992. He has also been a fashion model, black market salesman and finally of course, actor."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First of all he is apparently not a Martial Artist.
Which is the only way we would have of comparing
him with Seagal, fight scene wise.
Fight scenes are choreographed and we all know
that. Under the right conditions, instructions,
choreography and lighting, just about any one could
"look good" in a fight scene. But it is the years of
training in the Martial Arts that makes a big difference.

You are what? 22 years old?
Jason Statham is 34 years old! He hasn't paid his dues yet.
He's only been in the movie business around 8 years.

Putting Steven's birth date in 1951.....
that would make him.....55 years old!
He's been in the "movies" for 18 years.
He started his Martial Arts training (he was around 7 years old, I think) with karate instructor Fumio Demura, and in the 1960s he started his Aikido training under the instruction of Harry Ishisaka. Seagal received his first dan accreditation in 1974. That was 32 years ago.

Age can and will take its toll on any person.
Perhaps Steven does need to lose some weight!
But that is still his business and no one elses.

If you have problems watching Steven's films, and/or
no longer enjoy watching them, then the only thing
I can advise you to do is not to watch them.
If I don't like the way a film is made or I don't like the
way the actor does a part, then I don't watch it.....
I get rid of it.

As for me, I like all of his films. As long as he makes them,
I'll keep watching them.....over and over and over and over.....:)

Just my humble opinion,
God bless,
Mama san

I agree with you Mama san, aikidoboynj doesn't have to watch Steven anymore if doesn't enjoy him, leave him for those that do! & really appreciate him, no matter what his size, shape, or form! He is one helluva man in everything that he does & loves, animals , family, acting, singing, buddhism, etc! But I also will continue to watch & listen to his music over & over &over.
God Bless Him.

Well I was speaking about in terms of a big screen bad ass action star, but if you want to limit it to Martial Arts action, whats missing from that bio is that Statham has studied many arts from Wing Chun to karate to kickboxing. Even competing in the olympics is something most people can't even think about let alone compete in.

Comparing movies, honeslty if you're talking about the masses, Seagal has has had 5 strong action pieces. Like you said Statham is relatively new but he is the only man who can seem even a bit believable in the crazy world of action movies. Who else is there? Vin Diesel- he makes such crappy movie decisions that I've given up on him? The Rock? John Cena- No thank you.

Crank was a step in the right direction no doubt, but he is also more that an action actor taking cameos and other roles as well.

And yes I have stopped watching Seagal's movies I stopped after a few DTV's and Im not into that kind of music I like older music. But if he doesn't want to step back up to the plate and hit a home run than someone else has to.

Forget Strathmore or whatever his name is, he is no action star.

The new future of action and martial arts movies is: Tony Jaa, handsdown!

I don't feel him doing anything, no one cared about his last movie and it was so much hype. Fact is he is to small to control the screen. He is quick and performs outrageous stunts but get past that what else is there?

Put a big name as a villain in a solid Statham movie and I guarantee anybody that Statham will get the recognition he deserves. Statham is great. The man has got charisma!

Tony Jaa is pretty cool too. His stunts are crazy!

CRANK WAS AWESOME, by the way. Great, solid action movie.

I totally disagree with you. Tony Jaa is the next new thing, he is new, original and bringing REAL martial arts films back on film. Jasn Straham is not doing anything, he's not original and I really do not care for him.

home runs are the only thing that Steven Seagal hits in the movie community
Why don't you step up to the plate and swing for awhile, i'll bet you strike out

or the older he becomes, Seagal will always outlast any actor, all you see today is punches and kicks from these new actors and they're boring because that's all they do
Seagal fortifies movie goers with multi-vitamin and mineral entertainment to keep us interested
If you can't take the heat in Steven Seagal's kitchen, maybe you should get out ?

How can any of you fools slate Statham for doing a martial arts film but not knowing martial arts..

Seagal is one of the best Martial artists in the world, however he rarely does his own fights, and the fights that appear in his recent films are to put it bluntly SH!T.

Transporter and Transporter 2, had great fight scenes, unbeievable, but very very entertaining, 1 minutes of a fight scene from either of those movies, beats the whole of Seagals last 8 or so movies hands down.

Give credit where credit is due, Stathams films are very entertaining, if you like action and fighting, and face Facts Seagals no longer are.

Blah blah blah blah... Steven I worship you, your vicious punches and kicks make me WET with excitement and your beautiful face (which always seems to have the same pained expression of someone straining for a huge turd) is never far from my thoughts and dreams.

Nobody else comes close to you Steven - even DeNiro should give up, as his acting talents are NOTHING compared to yours. Every musician on earth might as well turn their guitars into firewood as nobody can match your playing. That Joe Satriani guy? Ha! Who's he?!

I have several thousand of your cherry flavoured energy drinks at home in my larder. With each one that I drink I feel it brings me a little closer to you. To God.

I imagine your large hands stroking my face every night when I close my eyes. I dream that I was the horse that you rode so well in The Patriot. I can just imagine you straddling me, your large legs entwined with mine. Your cellulite wobbling as we make the beast with two backs!

The fact that your last twelve or so movies have been at best lazy and sloppy and at worst completely unwatchable is neither here nor there, Steven.

Steven! I will love you even if you start making 3rd rate action movies with ridiculous taglines. I will love you even if you can no longer be bothered saying your lines and somebody else has to dub them. I will love you if you get too old and slow to do your own fight sequences and have to cheat your audience by getting someone else to do them for you. Hang on - you've been doing that for the past 6 years?! Never mind! You are the best! Blah blah blah. F.R.E.A.K.S.

Don Wilkey - Jason Statham's fight scenes are computer enhanced?! At least the guy attempts to actually do his own fight sequences, unlike your hero Seagal, of whom your blind worship is a little creepy.
