"Seagal charmed by Chiang Mai market"-The Nation

Hollywood action hero Steven Seagal yesterday took time off from shooting his latest film in Chiang Mai to visit a local market in search of amulets and charms.

He spent almost an hour at the Thipnet Market in Muang Chiang Mai district yesterday afternoon visiting various amulet stalls.

Thai rap singer Joey Bazoo was in the actor's company, along with a number of Seagal's foreign friends. Joey was on hand to offer the actor-cum-director advice about the different amulets and charms.

Seagal, 53, was also accompanied by a number of policemen and personal bodyguards, who tried to prevent cameramen from taking his picture.

Seagal, who is shooting a movie in the northern city, returned with more than 10 amulets and charms worth more than Bt10,000. Stall owner Thanawat Dejsiricharoenchai said Seagal showed an interest in a rare Buddha amulet worth about Bt30,000, but the star eventually opted for a Ganesh amulet for Bt1,500.

"I'm very happy that he visited my stall. I can boast to my family that a world-renowned star came to my shop," he said.

Another amulet stall owner, who described himself only as Hia Sod, said it was an honour to have Seagal as a customer.
