GlimmerMan said:MMCK - good topic. Here are my choices:
Bad Boys - excellent buddy movie and non-stop action right from the start. Can't wait for Bad Boys 2!
The Living Daylights - Just when it looked like it was all over for Bond, Timothy Dalton rescued a franchise which had long gone stale and turned Bond into a credible action hero once again. Easily the hardest Bond in terms of his pure take no sh*t attitude, this film rules from start to finish.
Rush Hour 1 & 2 - Any movie with Jackie Chan is going to be cool, but add a clearly mad black dude to the formula and you have a winner. The dialogue between Chan and Tucker is awesome, especially where Tucker tries to teach Jackie to speak like him or tells him he is going to bitchslap him back to Bangkok!
The Rock - Pure action once more, with possibly one of the best car chases in a movie (between a Hummer, a yellow Ferrari and a bunch of cops). Sean Connery is awesome and Nic Cage is a convincing action hero after years of playing pansies!
Broken Arrow - I love this movie. Travolta rules as the cracked pilot trying to unleash nuclear terror on the US and Christian Slater is cool as the down-to-earth ex friend trying to stop him. Again - non stop action from start to finish.
Heat - Not really an action film per se, but the action scenes (including a massive gunfight on the streets of LA) and the poignant showdown between De Niro and Pacino make this film one of my favourites ever.
Ronin - Another excellent De Niro film which has one of the most amazing car chase sequences ever filmed between a BMW and a Peugeot 405. The impressively large Jean Reno plays a cool character as well.
Passenger 57 - Basically a film which showed the world that Wesley Snipes could kick major ass!
Demolition Man - See above. Add Stallone. Awesome!
Terminator 2 - Judgement Day - Another one of my favourite films of all time and probably the first sequel that was better than the original.
Aliens - This time it's war.
Die Hard - Probably the definitive action movie.
Full Metal Jacket - Another of my favourite movies, this is like 2 films for the price of one, with the blackly comic and disturbing training camp scenes and the bleak reality of the horror of battle.
More to follow later.
Glimmer
Again Glimmerman, we seem to have similar tastes in films. I also rate "The Living Daylights" quite highly among the Bond cannon, and thought it returned Bond to some old fashioned, serious espionage. Although Roger Moore is my favourite Bond (I saw his films first), I still quite like Timothy Dalton and thought he was severly underrated in the role.
Passenger 57 is cool too. "Now repeat after me-: Charles Rane Is Not Insane!" LOL Bruce Payne made an excellent villain.
Later.
