Hey All,
It looks like Sony Pictures will be releasing the new Dolph Lundgren direct-to-dvd actioner THE MECHANIK on February 14th, 2006. The artwork is attached. Apparantly, it's one of Dolph's better movies, who, unlike Seagal, has been on a sort of winning streak after Direct Action and The Defender. Anyways, just thought some of the few Dolph fans here would like to know :)

Just saw this on DVDAnswers myself. I was about to post it here, but I had second thoughts because there's been a bit of Dolph bashing lately :( :(
I for one am looking forward to this movie. Long live Dolph!!!

I am too...it looks good, and I was pleasantly surprised with Dolph's last directing/acting effort THE DEFENDER, so I will definately be picking THE MECHANIK up for my collection :)

The Defender was very good. Dolph's direction was fantastic. Who knew he had it in him?! Direct Action was pretty good too. I'm glad The Mechanik is getting released soon. It took way too long for Defender and DA to come out.

I love the dutch cover but for some reason this US cover, is kinda the best cover I have ever seen ever! It's got unexplainable coolness. It seems like it's come out the blue cause they are relaeaing the film so much quicker than usual for a DTV movie. I'm gettig anxious to pick it up now, even though I have seen the film already.

Also if ever there was a teamup with Dolph and Seagal that would stop the Dolph bashing I think, that would be too cool to comprehend. Sure it would end up being a letdown but by sheer cool value it would rock, like Universal Soldier, I always get a kick from watchin Lundgren and Van Damme on screen together.

Come on lets have an Under Siege 3, Ryback runs a resturaunt which is world reknowned, the President (played by Jerry Springer, or failing that Roy Schieder) comes round for dinner, but the restuaraunt, inside a huge mall (cause it's classy see), is taken over by terrorists led by Rutger Hauer. Ryback is up against it and thinks he;s in **** when he's captured in the restaurant. However thinks change when his lowly, kitchen porter (Dolph Lundgren) returns from picking up vegetables on level 3. Dolph breaks Ryback out by killing 3 guards who have made a perimiter round the restaurant while Hauer secures the mall. Ryback discovers that his kitchen porter is in fact also ex-special forces and highly trained. Together they take on the might of Rutger Hauer, together with his right hand man Lorenzo Lamas, and save the day and the President.

My god I'd pay double to see that!

THE MECHANIK HAS A NEW TITLE!!!

Sony, always one to piss away a good movie, have retitled The Mechanik THE RUSSIAN SPECIALIST!!!! This movie battles Mercenary for Justice for the Worst Movie Title of the Year Award.

I;m a Dolph fan and I buried my head in my hands when I saw that title. Oh my lordy lord it is rubbish. It isn;t as bad as Mercenary For Jusitce, but the only exaplnation I can think of for Sony chaging the simple and aprt title for something so naff is to prevent confusion with the Chuck Bronson film Mechanic. DTV films get treated piss-poorly I'll be honest.

I agree with you 100% A stupid title for what appears to be Dolph's best movie in a long while. Sony really needs to get their act together and fast.

I do!
Why change a good title into something that sounds dumb?

I agree! We Seagal fans already have enough trouble dealing with stupid stunt doubles, dubbed voices and choppy editing, now we have to be subjected to idiotic titles too? Things just keep getting worse...

Go to Amazon.com type in "Mercenary" under DVD.. and you will find there is already a movie called Mercenary (1997), with Oliver Greener and John Ritter. Director, Avi Nelser. It's about a businessman's wife getting kidnaped and the husband hires a mercenary. Has 3 reviews with 5 stars...........Maybe that's whey they changed the name of Steven Seagals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well last night i watched The Mechanic starring Dolph Lundgren. Overall i was very impressed with the movie. The plot and action were well done. This is one of the best action movies i have seen recently and unfortunately i prefer this over the last few Steven Seagal movies. :( The movie looked good too, some nice locations.

I prefered this to Dolph Lundgren's previous movie - The Defender. There was more action in The Defender, but it was a bit repetative.

Thanks for the recommendation. :)

Smile dammit!
I've seen most of Lundgren's movies, and he always comes across as a bit clumsy really, totally lacking the fluidity of a master like Seagal. He's very likeable though, but just in the usual,Vin Diesel type way who lack the ability to show the kind of moves Steven can.
I'm not too keen on Steven's new title either, but it's how good the film is that counts. Better than Belly Of The Beast anyway.:)

Funny that the movie is The Mechanik... the Heavy Metal band Megadeth have made a song called The Mechanix. :D It was actualy written while Megadeth leadsinger Dave Mustaine was in Metallica, so tecnecgly its a Metallica song. But since Dave wrote it, he actualy have the rights to use it. It would be funny if it was a soundtrack to the movie, but I highly doubt it. :D
