Written press called "Kelebek" which is sold together with the most read daily newspaper "Hurriyet", has written that Steven Seagal is against Turkey and Turkish people. Also TV stations have put scenes from the film and indicated that Steven Seagal is acting like an enemy of Turkey.

I am very sorry.

Isn't Steven playing a caracter in his movies as most actors do. Are the newspaper refering to his caracter William Lansing as a Turkish hater or is it Steven himself that has said something bad about Turkey?

William Lansing saves a girl from trafficing. The organization that deals with the trafficing in this film was Turkish, maybe next time they are swedes or americans (no way!). My point is that any nation can be portraid bad in a movie, but in this case it's a few asholes that uses little girls. They never say that all the people of Turkey sell young girls to other countries.

Once again, it's only a movie.

"....
Why do we get upset about movies?
Steven Seagal is in a lousy movie called "Out of Reach."

In Poland, an organization led by Turks kidnap 16-year-old girls from dormitories and sell them at auction. Seagal is the hero who fights against this group.

Our media is up in arms because of the movie.

We are close to blaming the Foreign Ministry for allowing it to happen. We may call for a boycott of the movie.

I don't understand why we get so angry about such movies. He found a lousy subject and filmed a lousy movie. What should we do -- issue diplomatic protests?

We should instead support movies that favor Turks and Turkey.

If protesting against such movies had produced something tangible, Germans would be in the streets every other day. There is no need to get upset or angry about such movies."

I'll watch the movie again to make sure, but while he's in that empty building that's only a "mailbox" and all the phones start ringing, I think quite a few countries are named..... The villains are Turkish, but after all they are "only" selling to the highest bidder... Anybody could do the dirty job, but nobody would do it if there was no buyer. Who is worse? the one who sells, or the one who buys?
The way I see it, in any type of dirty business the main problem is not supply, but *demand*... no one takes the trouble to put something on the market unless they know there is a demand for that "something". What is the citizenship of the "buyer" here? that country should feel even more offended than the Turkish govt, in my view... In fact, any country whose name is pronounced in the "phone bidding" scene I mentioned above could feel offended...
Actually I wish there was more to hear about what is being done to *avoid* these *businesses" than about who feels "offended" by a movie...
Instead of feeling offended, the whole world should just feel ashamed that it does actually happen... because it DOES happen.
