Whats Up With The Out For Justice Dvd/Vhs?

Above The Law
I made a thread once saying why are there so many scenes cut out from the Out For Justice dvd/vhs version and the tv version has the scene when Richie goes in the store to steak a shirt and when he breaks in to Bobby's wife house and these kids try to stop him?

I always see those scenes on tv but on the vhs and dvd versions they are no where to be found. Whats up with that?

Does anyone have a dvd/vhs version that has those scenes?

Extra Scenes

Sadly they have never been released in any video or DVD version in the world, they're only available in those TV versions just as with the extra scenes in The Glimmer Man. TV companies often resort to cutting room floor footage to make up the running time once they've trimmed all the sex, language and gore. I get the feeling those extra scenes in the TV version were originally longer too, as they've been edited for language just like the rest of the film.

TBS cuts none ...

Like I said, TBS doesn't like to cut Seagal's 90s movies (his classic ones).

Out For Justice

Maybe the TBS version is different in Canada Yudansha with different watershed policies and the like. An American friend of mine told me TBS still run the emasculated version which has to be the most censored version of any film I've seen since a horrid version of Scarface I watched years ago. Cuts to the TBS version included even mild violence like Seagal punching a man in the crotch in the pool hall, most of the opening fight (which had different cutting room floor footage of Seagal to mask the language cuts), most of the butcher shop scene which was reduced to almost nothing, every shooting in the film, nearly all of the climax including every shot of Forsythe's bloodied face, the foot being blown off, the pan hits, the bat hits, the wrist-snap, the beatings, the shootings. Every last bit of language in the film was dubbed over with stupid alternatives and Seagal was devoid of all his colourful put-downs. The photo of Bobby pleasuring his girlfriend was changed to cutting-room floor footage of a different, more family-friendly photo each time he held it. Even the dog doesn't pee on the guy's face at the end anymore. The film was completely destroyed. Though we in the UK still have a bad censorship system, I'd say the TV film screenings still suffer less censorship than most in the US. Reservoir Dogs, Crash, The Exorcist, Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Out for Justice and Hard to Kill all play regularly uncut over here.

I respectfully disagree. TBS Superstation does such a slice and dice job on Steven's movies - Out for Justice in particular - that it was something of a shock to watch on dvd because of all that had been left out on the aired version.

The reason why those extra scenes turn up in Out for Justice - and the two extra scenes in Glimmer Man, neither of which are on the dvds - is to fill up the time lost from all the other cuts. Those two extra scenes in OFJ, for example, tell you just exactly how many minutes have been cut to make the content suitable for all viewers - nearly 10 minutes' worth.

OFJ is unbearable to watch on TBS Superstation for just that reason. I did tape it, though, because those two extra scenes are worth keeping.

I Belong To Steven
True, I feel it ruins them when they do that...And what bugs me, is they can edit out relatively harmless words like s*** but then leave in other things...I like to see him as he is, delivering his performance with all his guts and glory...He's just sooooooo exciting...:)

TBS is still on of the best stations to watch Seagal...

Yeah see compare SS's early movies to ones of late 90s and the last few years' that've been shown. It doesn't nearly compare in cuts.

Nice to see we agree on something TD, I was really mortified to see how they treated his films, Out For Justice in particular. Aside from the extra two scenes to boost the running times though, it was interesting to see the other cutting room alternate takes which included different angles and Seagal dialogue when he talks to the pregnant girl after the pimp beats her (or rather doesn't beat her in this version) and a few extra bits of a thug wielding a baseball bat and shouting non-obscene threats in the butcher shop, all used to mask over some of the cuts. I also caught Fire Down Below which used a dubber for Seagal every time he swore who sounded nothing like him! "You're a piece of slime." was one of my personal faves. Too bad there weren't extra scenes in any of his other films though, as we all know most had a good deal chopped out before their release for one reason or another. I've yet to see the extra Glimmer Man scenes though I've heard they're not as good as those in Out For Justice anyway. In terms of sheer man-power TBS must spend more time cutting films than they do screening them. I caught others including Striking Distance, Narrow Margin and Con Air whilst on holiday in America and they were all similarly butchered, even late at night. Con Air also included lots of extra scenes to compensate for lost time. Why is it when people burn books they're scum but when they destroy films in this way, which people have slaved away to make, it's like they're a concerned citizen or something.

Movie vs. books ... interesting stuff

"Why is it when people burn books they're scum but when they destroy films in this way, which people have slaved away to make, it's like they're a concerned citizen or something."

Interesting point to ponder about ... I guess books are taken as art while movies as entertainment.

Do you ever find that the book you read is more informative and actually more interesting than the movie that's based on that book?

Nice finds (I'd seen the one in the clothes store, before....but not the other)
It's great to see old threads resurrected :)

You can also see some 'removed' scenes in the trailers as well......
notice the 'throat chop' Seagal gives the Jamaican in the mall scene in the Marked For Death trailer
there was also a whole sub-story dealing with Seagal 'screwing' the Inuit woman in On Deadly Ground
a few of the scenes can be seen in the trailer as well....
also the Seagal Master Of Harmony magazine wrote of the love story and even has a full page picture of the fight scene that Seagal had with the Inuit men that didn't like the idea he was messing with one of their women.

Here's the picture of the fight scene I mentioned in the above post....I inserted the other upper left image from the previous page....none of these scenes appeared in the final movie edit.

Regarding "On Deadly Ground" : There was a fire and destroyed some reels which was a disaster for director Seagal.
Seagal said that on the "Jay leno Tonight Show" when he was promoting "On Deadly Ground".

Sugust: Of course I have, but only on VHS and I can´t transfer it on DVD because I haven´t got a VHS Recorder anymore. By the way, all the Seagal interviews he had given on the Arsenio Hall Show which you can watch on YouTube were downloaded there by me with the exception when he was promoting "Out for Justice".
