  • Hi there Gal,
Lovely to know you are online at the same time. I'm in Hong kOng, it's 2.20 pm here, what's your time over there, know you are tired, so won't keep you, just thought I'd say hello and acknowledge you.
    Love,'Halkush halyna
    Hello Stacey,
thanks for your vote of confidence in my fluency in languages, the truth is I'm not terribly fluent in any, only know how to get by. buy things, tlak to taxi drivers, shopkeepers, to people in the street, ask directions ,point out to helpers what to do in the house.

I have a Slavonic heart and soul and therefore am very emotional, very caring and very compassionate.

I have been through a lot in my life with my parents first , then stepping in and out of cultures and haveing to live overseas in many countries without friends or family, i have missed my younger sister terribly.therefore i love going out and hanging out with her when I'm home in melbourne.

at the moment we are going through watching my mother slipping away.
it really is the near end of her life she has so many things wrong with her but her sheer will to live , which is so filled with physical paink made more worse because she refuses to go into a nursing home but really shouldn't live alone.she is too proud really. A will of iron.

I'm away in HOng KOng and ring her everyday, my sister , though she lives only 15 minutes away on the highway can't be with her all the time, she works hard and travels around Austrlia with her conferencing work.she sets up conferences for different categories of groups.

she has left her home to be with our mother 4 times this week and it's really beginning to infringe on her work and finances.

How we can overcome this era in my mother's life is to pray.

i pray a Novena every day tha God sends His Holy spirit to my mother and just envelops her with His Love, Light Nd Healing power and that if it is time for her to go, then god to take her gently in her sleep. that's all i can do. I am not returning to australia until I finish my work overseas, next stop is shanghai, to find a tenant for our apartment there and another tenant for my son's flat.then i return to Hng kong for 4 days and head off for London to help my daughter, who is studying naturopathy in the field of Nutritional Healing.
she will be sitting for 2 exams and her nanny who looks after her 3 children is going off to spain with her mother on holidays for a month.
so I will be with my beloved grandchildren, especially my one and only Arcadia my one grandaughter who was one years old on May 24th this year.

I haven't seen my grandchildren for 1 year and miss them terribly. It's rather special and I'm blessed to be able to fly and see them in London for 3 months.
then i head to singapore to stay with my son and his 2 boys, Kristjan and ayden aged 7 and 4. they are so beautiful you woulnd't believe, we are really a very good looking family.

after my travels in singapore, we headback, my husband and I to perth in australia to fix oup the house in preparation for my children and their families to visit and stay with us for the Christmas Holidays.thyen we are going to put the big family house on the market and sell it.

We head to Melbourne to stay with my mother on january 5th in time for the Ukrainian Christmas on 7th jan. and the New Year on 14th Jan.

I'm hoping agiainst hope that mymother will be alive by then. but only god knows when it is time for Him to take her into his arms and back to Him in Heaven.

I have been a teacher for 25 years and know about learning challenged children and peole and have reffered many to educational psychologists, and tracked their progress. so i know what it is to have ADHD as I have taught such children before in my classes.
a lot of healing takes place with such children with the right kind of nutrition, one must be careful what to intake when you are ADD or ADHD. Nutrition takes a very important place in such childrens' well being. so does the many different ways of learning, using all the different senses to learn.

I will write to you some more, but it's late and i have to sleep.
Love you and your children, take care, God loves you and yours and so do I.
    Love,
    Halyna
    Hello you beautiful person,countryEagle/Stacey,

Yes, i remember well the exhaustion I felt in preparing for a feast for my friends and family, many, many times.
but that is part of the Slavonic nature.
that is why you have felt so connected to friends from the Baltic States.
We believe that socialising around food warms, the heart and enhances healing and bonding between friends and family.what you have said about that is so true, it does bring about and enhances connection and joy, laughter is the best medicine for all ills, physical as well as emotional.

Ukraine is not part of the Baltic states. It is a very big country, the name Ukrain means land without borders. that, as well as the fact that it is the "rice bowl", of the region has encouraged marauders and invaders from its long history in the past.
I have finished reading "Ukraine: The history" and it traces the history of Ukraine from 4000 years ago. always it was for its rich back earth, the fertile "Chernaya Zemlya."

the Urainian language is different from the Russian language.
Western Ukraine has many Polishised words and the people are Ukrainian Catholic, while Eastern Ukraine has many Russianised words. e.g. In Western ukraine the word for "fork" is "fidelko: the Polish word, while in Eastern Ukraine the word for "fork" is "vilka", the Russian word. the Faith practised in Eastern Ukraine is Orthodox, like the russian faith.
We, our family are Orthodox, and we speak a Russianised form of Ukrainian.

The reason i can speak russiak (not fluently), but I understand every spoken word, is becuase when we migrated to australia, we lived in Geelong about 50 miles from melbourne and the only church we could attend that was Orthodox was the Russian orthodox church, so many of our family friends in the neighbourhood where we lived in Geelong were Russian and we had to communicate with them in Russian, even the music teacher who taught me on the piano was Lithuanian who culd onlly communicate with me in Russian.
IN my street, my neighbours were from latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, and Estern and Western Ukrainian.

Once the Ukrainian Orthodox church was built about 3 streets away from mine the Catholic Ukrainian church was also built nearby and we began to be polarised from the Russians.
that was a natural thing becuase of the politics played out in the the history of Ukraine , especially in the 20th centruy by the Russian bolsheviks and the communist party headed at first by Lenin then Stalin who murdered 50 million of his own people due to his madness and paranoia.

After the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 Ukraine took the opportunity to break away from Russian domination and re -introduced the Ukrainian language, history and arts and crafts, education all in Ukrainian, it was independant for 4 years, having it's independance taken away by the Russian Tsar in the early 1800's. it had it's independance given and taken away many time during the last 500 years. It always took back its independance either from the Polish /Lithuanian/Russian invaders. always for the same reason, for the fertile soil, strategic position to the East and south, hence the formation of the Cossacks, those patriotic sons of Ukraine who were driven by their invaders to the grassy plains ot Eastrn borders of Ukraine, they were the rag-tag soldiers who invariable were the only defenders of Ukraine for centuries.
there was a famous film starring Yul Brynner and Tony Curtis in the 60's called
Taras Bulba" which touched on those Cossacks who defended Ukraine from the marauding Poles at that time in the late 1700's.

If you purchase the book called "The History of Ukraine" by Paul Macosci, a Canadian Ukrainian, from amazon, which is where i got it from, it is so revealing about how Ukraine has been coveted by its neighbours in its long history. In the year 1400 it was conquered by Kublai Khan , a Mongol and was part of his conquest for 200 years.
khublai Khan himself didn not stay there, he returned to Mongolia shortly after conquering Ukraine, but sen as merceneries, the Tatars, who acted on his behalf and took the trade and produce from the Ukraine as part of his conquest.
The tatars settled in the crimea and built schools, mosques and influenced that mpart of the Ukraine with its culture. Evne today you can find traces of its culture, race, language and buildings in the Crimean region of Ukraine.
Stalin inventually killed off or drove out the Tatars in 194 to and beyond the Caucusus mountains in the east, as he considered their presence a blight and disgraceful reminder of their conquest of Russia.

the book i read just reiterated many of the historical truths that happened during my mother's birth, existence and life in the Ukraine under Stalin's rule.
during the Second World War, many soldiers from the Ukraine were forced into the Red Army to faight the Nazis. Imagine how it must have been, to be driven by your enemies from behind to face enemies fromm the front.
20 million men, women and children died during the Second World war, either killed by Stalin's Red Army or by the Nazis.

Hence the displacement of millions of refugees from russia, ukraine and the Baltic countries and Rumania as well as Po9land.

United Nations Refugee orgaisation had millions in camps all over Europe.
some stayed there for decades in camps, particularly if you unlucky enough to be in a camp at the end of the war in Italy.I met some refuees from Italy, Jugoslavians who only got transference papers out of the camps in the early 1960's.

We were lucky enough to be in the amican zone in germany after the war and got out by assisted passage in 1949.

Tracing one's ancestors history gives one a better understanding of your own self. It's a fascinating subject, tracing one's geaology.

I hope my brief outline of the Ukraine and where i originated from gives yu a better understanding and knowledge of that part of the world and its peoples.
The largest Ukrainain migration took place to Canada at the end of the 1800's.
One Jewish migrant to Sachketwan in Canada , who wrote back home how favourable the land and similar the land was to the Ukriane started a mass migration from ukraine to Canada which lasters for decades at the turn of the 20th Century.they started their migration to escape the pogroms of Serfdom by the Russian Tsar.

so i landed in australia with my mother and father and later my sister was born in Australia. Melbourne has the largest Ukrainian community in the Southern Hemisphere.

Now i ma married to a malaysia chinese, have two Eurasia children, one is married to an Italian the other to an Englishman who speaks, reads and writes fluent Mandarin and Japanese.Their childrn are truly representatives of United Nations.

Love and happy reading of my letter to you.

    Hi Stacey
Just want to thank you for your suggestions a few pages back, on doing some lovely Russian recipes for mymother.
Actually she is a very patriotic Ukrainian a and on the committe of the Cossacks who defend the independance of Ukraine. Though she is not anti russian , she is feircely independant and fights for Ukraine's independance from Russia.
I grew up learning how to do everything in a Ukrainian household including the cooking, especially on feast days.
Mum sent me to Ukrainian school every saturday of my childhood so I learned the arts and crafts, the cookery and the singing and the dancing of Ukraine, I know the sons and dancing so well I could ge up and do a traditional dance for you right now from memory.
Mum , like other ukrainian migrants wanted her children to learn the crafts, traditions and sons and dances of old Ukraine becuase she knoew she would never go back and live there and wanted to preserve the culture and pass it on to us, my sister and I.
I'm grateful for that now as I'm older, it is part of who I am.
thanks for the suggestions, it was heartwarming to read of your suggestion to call up some of her friends and organise for her a special day.
Actually , becuase i grew up in Geelong and albourne all those years ag, everytime i return there as I did the last few months i look up my old Ukrainian friends as well as mum's and we have cook ins, parties and invite each other over to each other's houses, most of my frines' mothers have died so mum is very special to them and they love coming over to her house when I am there.they totally indulge her.
she is still very active in the Ukrainian committies, and so very well respected in her community.
There are so few of them left and she is considered a very important person in the community.
I actually have more community life there than anywhere else.
    thank you so much.
    love you,
    Halyna

    Love Your Sister, Stacey/Eagle
lol I am really giggling here because we are going round in circles and missing each other. See you in the chat if you get this? :)
I was drawn to your name, because to me, it means one who has a worrier spirit, determined to overcome hardships!!! Me, I am a country girl, originally from North Louisiana who now lives out in the Country, in South Louisiana. I Love Eagles and what they represent in my Bible, from Isaiah 40: 28 - 31. "They that wait upon the LORD ADONAI(for an answer), Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with Wings as Eagles..run and not be weary..walk and not Faint...."

When a storm approaches an Eagles habitat, the Eagle has the ability to RISE Above the storm and glid on the wind with ease...being carried by the wind, using the negitive or positive force of the wind to its advantage instead of the strong winds destroying it....Effortles flight in air....not waisting it's energy...harnessing the power of the storms wind for good....

I have been and am going through many challenges and hardships But I Refuse to ever give up! The Eagle is a symbol of courage for me, to overcome all hardships, letting the hardships teach me and help me grow stronger & change for the better.... Plus I Love Animals and The Outdoors...I strongly believe it is our responsability to protect & take care of this eartly treasure. It is a gift and a Blessing. If one observes it closely, one can learn MANY Thnings from observing nature.... Therefore, I believe n being an avid defender of Wildlife/Ecosystem Conservation, Whole Heartedly!

So you see, my name has several complex-deep meanings, for me. Nice to meet you sevenyearstorm. I do pray you will find the peace you need, in the midst of your life storms and pray that you will find the answers you seek & wait for. I'm not perfect, I just do my best to learn and overcome.

    Love Your Sister, Eagle/Stacey
Actually, I cheated, it's just one of the alternate titles that they were going to use for Hard to Kill back in the day. (I assume it's a play on the character's name of Mason Storm) But looking back, the last 7 years have been pretty intense for me! So how about Country Eagle then?

    xCas
Thanks Sue. I will chat with you later, then. I understand. I am like that too, not wanting to drive in the rain unless I have to. I love sitting out in the rain and watching Thunderstorms but not driving in it.
    Hi Stacey
I'm just reading your PM. I'll reply later I've got to go out to the bank before it starts raining.
    Sleep well. :)
LOL! I KNOW Exactly What you Mean!!! Especially with me having 2 little ones and so much to do and deal with....Too many irons in the fire, for me...LOL! But true...
    Hi Stacey

thanks for your post and ideas.
I'm only here for a minute... snatching a few seconds to catch up...
You take care, too and Hope you have a Very Blessed day full of Peace and Enlightenment!!!

    Love Your SISTER, Eagle/Stacey
