Sorry to all you overseas who want to help

The Burma It Can't Wait Site plainly says it is the U.S. Campaign for Burma

They appear to be running it for thirty days and looking for a million 'voices'.

Every day they have a different 'celebrity' speaking out. Steven is scheduled for Day 17. This is Day 3.

As of now (11:19 am EDT- 03 May 2008) they have 37,571 'voices'.

Since they take an email address I can only presume they will be inundating us with additional emails in the future about other issues.

If you want something done - do it yourself....

So my mouth and my money are here-

http://www.irrawaddy.org/ - this one is a 'press' website worth looking at.

Burma=Myanmar and like China needs its doors opened. All sanctions do is make the poor suffer even more. Sanctions against military arms and weapons are the only useful means of protest from outside governments. But, like any big city across the world, those goods can be obtained on many street corners through black market means.

Using tourists and their $$ opens the doors to exchanges that the dictatorship governments cannot control. Freedom can start as a whisper that turns into a shout. Please find your voice and speak out for them.

Hello,
Myst Mom : thank you so much for the wonderful insight you always put into your posts. You make us reach deep inside and do some serious thinking. Regarding your comment on the whisper becoming a shout:
Many, many years ago this started in our beautiful country of South Africa and the voices rose to a swell and eventually a shout which caused the downfall of the apartheid era. Now, we have an even more beautiful country with us all (black, white, indian and many other nationalities) getting to know one another, learning from each other and our next generation will really get it together. The children, who do not know apartheid or discrimination, do not see colour at all and the most wonderful thing is to see all the colours on the school grounds, playing with one another without a care.

PS: I am white by the way.

Our great tragedy is Zimbabwe, where they have now started what seems to be an ethnic cleansing on political beliefs. The Zim people are very peaceful and caring and to see and hear this daily on our news reports while our own government takes a "quiet diplomacy" stand is sickening. This country is on our northern border and the things these poor people are doing to get into our country is heartbreaking. Mothers crawling through holes with tiny babies to get into our country for some measure of safety, elderly people trying to climb the border fence.

Please remember these people in your prayers because it seems as though the rest of the world has forgotten them

Blessing of Unicorns be on you
Cheryl

Isn't it sad. The places of freedom have so much to offer and the borders are overwhelmed with those fleeing from oppression. There is no way the free democracies in the world can support all those seeking a free way of life. Unfortunately, the hordes would suffocate those nations. It is too bad we cannot accept all of them and leave the oppressors to their lands with no one to rule or terrorize. In your continent, nothing but the bush and desert to rule.

The sadness now, with Myanmar/Burma is all those in desperate need of water, food and shelter and an ignorant government looking for ways to exploit the aid offered by so many. Soon one country after another will be held to ridicule for not giving, soon enough, fast enough or just plain enough to ease the suffering.

In this case the critical press should hold up the leaders of that poor country to the strictest ridicule they can- The Burma It Can't Wait campaign was designed to run for thirty days and raise world awareness of the situation - this unfortunate event offers well timed publicity that the organized event could not, nor would not wish on anyone.

Be it Zimbabwe, Angola, Tibet, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Columbia, San Salvador, China and on through a long list of oppressed nations....Freedom is not free and some of us can only add a voice while others send their children.

Keep speaking out... Open those doors wide and let the stink out, freedom will find a way in..

As always,
Australia comes running quickly to give aid, caring and "hands on " help.
goes beyond political and cultural borders and boundaries, just one big CARING NATION.
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers in outreach to all those who are suffering from the political and latest cyclone in Burma.
also hearfelt thoughts go out to Zimbabweans in their ongoing battle with a tyrant who has ruined the country and still holds onto threads of power.
to all Tibetans who are clamouring and fighting off political and cultural strangulations by Big Brother in a neighbouring country.havent been too vocal on this site lately, fighting off asthma, bronchitis and flu.
have battles of my own on the home front as I settle into roots in Melbourne, but will get pro-active and contribute to CARE, the big hearted charity organisation of Australia.

I am reminded of John Lennon's song, Imagine.
(If you don't know it, you can probably find it on line somewhere).

It is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the suffering of the world, and hard to know where to begin. My heart goes out to all those in Burma, struggling not only with this natural disaster, but also with the political and human rights disaster of their government. I heard on the news today that aid organizations are saying please don't send money to the Burmese govt as they are unlikely to spend it wisely. But I do hope that other forms of aid will get to where it needs to go.
The Canadian govt. today announced that it will contribute $2 million to the effort. Personally, I think that it PATHETIC. Try maybe $20 million, and I will be more impressed. Still waiting to hear how to make personal donations.

I couldnt beleive my little ears this morning when i heard that some assistance is being held up due to bickering about what can come in and what cant what an load of rubbish..these poor people are staving and dying they need this food water and medicine...they should just put there differences aside and work together...

Sue

I agree they should work together and let the aid in. There is little point in personal or government donations if the aid is going to be blocked getting through to the people who need it.

I just wonder

how many people died from the cyclone and storm surge

And how many died after as a result of the lame Asseted government playing with their pri*ck's.

The indifference to human life and suffering is inexcusable and whatever their belief's religious or otherwise well...karma...kismet.

I am guessing that you get more timely news about what is happening there than we get in North America. I heard this morning that the UN is not sending any more aid because the govt is not distributing it...
The question that gets me, is WHY not?? Do they (govt) really want to be the cause of all that suffering?? Is there some point to their actions??

Oh, Yes, Tiger!
It's called "GREED"!
These are the type of 'people' whose
souls will burn in hell one day. While they are burnng,
I hope they remember each and every one
of those who suffered because of their actions.
God bless,
Mama san
