How many of you have been in real fights?
Even once!
How much can you handle?
I mean the real thing! When you had to fight for your Honor!Your Girlfriend's!
Or your Life!

I hate fighting! It is awful to experience. But to watch a controlled fight such as in the arts or choreographed in movie is cool.

Well, unfortunately I have had to use Aikido in a fight, but it was more for my own protection while working (Law Enforcement) so you can say i am real or not, but what I ahve had to use has been effective and the "bad guy" was very very compliant after I used a few techniques. Nothing flashy though and definately nt like a movie!!!!!

Hello Tenshinaikidoka!
Well,as I have said before the phrasing was more or less clever!!
I am not to judge who's real or not!!!
People who are into Martial arts know if they are effective or not!
I guess you know the answer!I am not to give a certificate of who's real ,who's not!!!
Most of the time I am sure people into Law Enforcement ARE FOR REAL because they are faced with violence everyday!!!
By the way,do you know Jim wagner?
What do you think of his tapes?
Peace!

Glimmer, don't you remember way back in the days of the official SS forum and chat? You and I had some great moments discussing stuff! I just remembered one time back then when I mentioned this story of me waiting for the train. Up comes this guard asking Q's. One thing led to another (him asking about MA, me saying I'm a student of aikido, him saying what is that, me saying aikido is about blending, no-resistance etc). For some strange reason, just as the train arrived, he started to get very pushy, while I just wanted to get on that train. He said something to the effect of aikido wasn't very good for self defense jadajadajada.... Just as the train doors started to open he said - wait what would you do about this (and proceeded to grab my hand!). I did a simple nikkyo (like aikido 101 technique!), and down he went, screeming. Just as the door was starting to close I let him go and with a smile and the words - That's the power of no resistance, (or something like that) - I entered the train just as the door closed. I just remember his face turned into a violin, you know imagine the shape of a violin standing up, now morph that into a face of surprice/utter disbelief  (remember Glimmer, or are you another Glimmer?)

Well, back then in the secondary school I had a fight with a guy who was picking on me all the time.I used to be fond of the Chinese Martial Arts films and I tried to practice those kicks on him.His arm was in the cast,he had broken it a while ago.Well,it ended with his cast broken and with his fist hitting me in the face...It was hard but I didn't have a bruise afterwards anyway...He tried to stay away from me later.I quit fighting with boys in high school.

i see that we have a lot of common point. When i was at school, a guy was always pissing me off, trying to beat me up. 4til i got tired and i broke his arm.
5 of my friend had to stopped me. i almost broke the arm of an adult who was there to discipline the lunchtime. I was really mad that time. This guy never approach me again. And me i had nothing, not a bruise

Hey Aikilove - sorry - I do remember! Hahahahaha! Yes - I am the same Glimmer - the one and only. I do remember we had some cool talks way back in the good old days when the official site message board was open. What has happened to the Rev. Dean these days? I had some cool conversations with him also. I particularly remember him making a comment about a cheap, one string bass guitar, which I found highly amusing! :D

Take it easy mate.

I've been through most of my scuffles by the time I turned 18. Back in former USSR republic Moldavia, we had some pretty "close-knit communities" in the yards. Fighting was not uncommon in schools either.

Over the course of my life I've gotten several black eyes, got punched in the diaphragm several times, a couple of times in the balls, once two guys overpowered me and sat on me and one of them repeatedly punched me in the face... one time a gang attacked me but after the first two punches were thrown we all got magically arrested by plainclothes militia and spent an afternoon in a leaky basement being interrogated.

Here in America my last and only serious fight was in 12th grade. It was brief, because I was scared and on andrenaline. I rushed the guy, grabbed his hair, and kneed him in the face. The teacher broke it up. The guy was spitting blood.

Most recently I ikkyo'ed an aggressive homeless man after his fists went into a guard stance. And that was like 3 years ago.
I did a little sparring in boxing and Judo. That was educational too.

i have had 2 real life incidents not competition bouts.both involved drunken louts with the sole intention of having a punch up!the first was about 2 years ago and was jumped by 2 people.i had walked past them when 1 tapped me on the shoulder so as i turned he punched in the side of the face.then as i hit the deck they both started kicking me about.managed to get up after a bit of blocking and rolling around and 1 of them came at me with a hook punch which i blocked and got a good strike to his face!then his mate came at me so i grabbed him by his jacket and slammed him into the wall and threw him downand he rolled a couple of times.then i legged it home cos i was so hyped on adrenalin!!!the second incident was similar except it started with one guy in a club starting on me pushing me around and into a wall etc, so i warned him to stop and he carried on.next thing i throw a solid reverse strike straight at his sternum and he goes down like a sack of spuds!its over so i thought till later outside the club him and 2 of friends follow me for revenge!by moving around a lot i managed to almost keep it so i was fighting 1 on 1 which thank goodness i do a lot of in class!(2 on 1 sparring!)on the down side 1 guy did end up going through a glass door of a shop.both of these incidents scared the hell out of me as i hate fighting!i learn to defend myself in the hope i never have to.the best form of self defence is not to be there in the 1st place!!!for that reason i rarely go on drinking nights out and tend to be the driver for the night!

I am confident that I will be one of the greatest Martial Arts fighters ever. I have not been in a real street fight yet but that shows my self-control. I do also feel confident in my skill and I can handle myself against most people. I am still young and training and learn everday.

My goal is to compete in the UFC and Pride FC and obtain a Black Belt In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the legendary Rickson Gracie. Also I want to obtain high Black Belt rankings in Aiki-kai Aikido, Kyukoshin-Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and I want to study Muay Thai.

Hello Little Dragon!
You quoted my first post on this topic;Well,I have explained that the
phrasing was a little unclever!
Besides, this kind of topic had already been discussed in the past!
So I may have asked instead who had already 'been put to the test ?'!
Not meaning that it was 'Good'!
First because it's against the law! However, even the strictest Laws allow some measure of so-called 'self-defence'!
You say that it's never happened to you because you 'have self-control'!
That's Good!but sometimes it's not enough!
I would say that having self control is OK alas sometimes it's not enough!
You can avoid a conflict 90 percent of the time by being self confident but
in the remaining ten percent you have to be able to defend yourself!
Well,it's my two cents!Maybe you don't agree and I highly respect your point of view!
After all,who am I to teach lessons in self control?
What I am referring to is my own experience as A Martial Artist!
I suggest you discuss this topic with your instructor?
Peace Little Dragon!

thanks Adrian!
Do you like Richard Norton?
I have a friend in the States who met him several times,he told me
he was very tough!
he also told me Richard Norton was a former bouncer and a very nice
guy!
the kind of guy you like to have with you if things go wrong!LOL!
The remaining ten percents as we've said before!
Peace!

I recall it was " I play you like the cheap one-string bass you are!":D :)
That was during the board wars on the official site. I also recall a lot of equally comedic moments such as the chain story,
Judge Dredd handing out stupidity citations and posting WANTED POSTERS,
The message board maniacs song and the songs we made up that followed it.
The news broadcasts from Color Commentator about you skiing over some old ladies house and her chasing you away wielding a broom.

I just bought a new PC and hooked up the net last month but I've spent a lot of time transferring files from my old computer. Not as easy as it sounds considering my old PC was a second hand unit obtained from Fred Flintstone. I finally bought a new PC when the two squirrels that powered the old one ran away with the nut I dangled in front of them.

I have read a number of the threads posted here but found it hard to jump in with my own point of view in the middle of the conversation. I will however bring this post back to the topic at hand.

I remember Lonewolf from France. If I remember right we both had studied a similar sounding art. Kwan Ki Do and Quan Ki Do or something like that. The old timers here might recall that I'm a martial arts instructor that started training in the mid 70's. I was a bodyguard for ten years and developed a reality based self-defense program.

Haven experienced numerous physical conflicts I've discovered that one has to assess the treat level and react accordingly. The reaction has many variables that have3 to be considered. The number of attackers, the aggression of ones attacker, the amount of skill one possesses. The legal liabilities if one over reacts.

The main point is if one uses physical force to end a conflict it should be a last resort.

Respectfully,
Rev.Dean

Nice to hear from you again Rev.
But you're wrong about my incident - you mix it with some other discussion we had at that board. I only mentioned this incident to Glimmer through a private chat session. Somehow I described the look of the persons face as being that of a violin. Glim had first hard time to understand (understandibly) but then whe both ROLOAF for a while.

Still...

I've never been in a real fight.

I wish I had, but no - no one ever dared to bully ME! :D

If I see a girl who's in trouble and I run over to help her out, by the time I get there the bad guy has already vanished.

Life can be so bleeding boring sometimes... ;)

No you don't wish to be in a fight!
Anything can happen to anyone (regardless of skill) in a fight. Would you want to live with having to gauge someone eye out or beak someones elbow? Or would you want to live with one working eye yourself?

Everyone coming out unharmed from a serious situation is just lucky.
