And some people can be fans of old Seagal as dislike what he has become - doesnt make the less of "fans" just becasue they dont like his poor quality DTV movies.

I understand what your saying BillyRay and I am gald you voiced that aspect of being a fan. Being a fan doesn't doesn't mean just excepting him and put absolutely no thought into what he is doing. I feel as fans we are responsible in a way to let him know, if you will, that he is not doing his best and we all know he can do better if he focused more. (I am sure I will be banned for this opinion or shunned by some here but what the heck. You only live once.)

Answer me this if the shue was on the other foot (if you were some one great) would you like it people kept dogging you and calling you all sorts of things?..of course not so why should "he" listen to it..

If you ask me a question please don't answer for me. I have to say that if I was in the acting business then yes I would want criticism.

I think we should all lok at the big picture. I beleive Seagal has stated before that he grew sick of the "Hollywood" scene, so to speak and that I think, is one reason he does the DTV thing.

The movies themselves are not that bad, however the dubbing/body-stunt doubles does get annoying. I thought Into The Sun was a step in the right direction. I enjoyed that movie over the other DTV's. But only time will tell.

Thing is, you either like him or you don't. I don't see any middle ground, being a fan is just that, a fan, no matter what. Old young bad or good, you either like the guy or ya don't. At least that is my opinion. We could criticise the guy all day and at the end, would it really change what he is doing and where he is going? Probably not. Let's just enjoy what we have while we have it.

In my opinion, this makes more sense than anything I've seen here in a long time. I agree 100% with this, but have not been able to sum it as eloquently and succinctly as this. Very, very well said, tenshinaikidoka. :)

I think you can like the actor but not like a project they have put out or something they may have done. I do not see anything bad about that at all. I like Seagal but I do not like all the projects he has done. It really is simple.

This was a good post, I think he has done some good things lately! I liked "Into the Sun" and am still loving the CD! If Submerged is not up to some's standards that is okay!! I can live with this for awhile and be happy with him!
Thanks

In the late 80's and early 90's Seagal became one of the biggest action stars of all time. When one would mention Steven Seagal, men in their early 20s-40s would say ye Seagal is one tough guy his movies rock. Then ofcourse the ladies would squirm with love and fidelity. Now almost 15 years after Seagal graced the screen and revolutionized the action world and took it by storm, what is his future? Do you think Seagal still has the same appeal he once had, the same influence, the same legacy now?

~~What are your opinions?
In our present day on earth, the existence and creation of film making would not be complete without Steven Seagal's presence in it
Acting, i believe comes second nature to Mr. Seagal
I suggest you wake up and feel the (ki,chi) flowing energy coming from Steven Seagal's movie characters, off the screen of your tv or box office theater, and into your eyes!
You just may discover the uniqueness of this man's endeavors

I agree with you Purple, my point was your either a fan or your not. I see people bad mouthing him for his current projects without seeing the entire picture. Like I said, I thought Into The Sun was a good movie, when I got Submerged however, I was extremely disappointed. But, I am still a fan of his movies and his teaching. I agree with you though. Sorry if I did not come across the way I should have!!!!!

You know what - i am a great person! In my mind Steven Seagal is no more great than any average person. Hes just a martial artist who makes (or used to make) really good action movies. I dont see how he is any 'greater' than me or you or anybody. I know loads of people who are good at what they do - are they not great becasue they arnt famous? If Steven wasnt famous - he was still just a martial arts instructor, would you still think him great? Does fame make someone great? I think not. Im not saying hes not accomplished some amazing things, but what makes him more great than the billions of other people on this planet who have also accomplished things?

And too answer your question - im a film student myself. If i make a particualy bad peice of work then yes i do expect people to be harsh in constructivly criticising the work so that next time i dont make the same mistakes and i improve. I dont see anything wrong with contructive critiscm of Seagal. Im not just saying "Hes old, fat, past it blah blah blah", what im saying is - get into shape, take on a good solid director, a script that puts him in his best light e.g. a cop on a revenge mission, pick a US location and make a decent film. There is nothing wrong whatsoever in criticising something which is so obviously sub-par and, annoyingly something which could be so easily put right by Seagal. If you dont perform your best in your job your going to be criticised, whatever you do, whatever job you have. Seagal has to live with the fact that if his is going to continue to put out poorer quality movies he is going to get alot of criticism, and its not a case of just telling people who criticise him to shut up or be postive - thats the consequences of his action, just the same for anyone else in their jobs. You might be able to control peoples opinions on this forum but the harsh facts are that in the wider world Seagal is going to have to accept that he will get untold criticism for his newer work as a result of his lack of effort. Its a knock on effect - not something that can simply be silenced by claims of "not being fans" or "negative posting".

I agree with Billy, Purple and Sweet Chin Music. I liked the guy who was in Marked For Death, not the guy who stared in The Foreignor.

Well, his movies don't make it to theaters anymore so there's one statement...I think Steven seriously let himself go when he was on hiatus, he gained like 30 something pounds, it should of never happened. Things could have been A LOT different.

please, just because I'm not kissing his butt doesn't mean I'm not a fan. Im upset, yes it's true. But it's hard for me to watch someone I enjoy turn his career into a pile of poo. Not because of low budget, not because of bad scripts, but because of his lack of effort. You cannot sit here and tell me hes trying.

I can see why Amos said that Sweet Chin. It's just every post of your is always a negative comment or review about Seagal.
