The Legacy Of Seagal.

In the late 80's and early 90's Seagal became one of the biggest action stars of all time. When one would mention Steven Seagal, men in their early 20s-40s would say ye Seagal is one tough guy his movies rock. Then ofcourse the ladies would squirm with love and fidelity. Now almost 15 years after Seagal graced the screen and revolutionized the action world and took it by storm, what is his future? Do you think Seagal still has the same appeal he once had, the same influence, the same legacy now?

~~What are your opinions?

I think Seagal is coming back.He still has the same appeal, sure older, but better, don´t you think?
I believe he still will make wonderful movies like the first one, Lets give him a time. We know he´s good enough to do that.
So, let´s wait for our hero.

I remember being in school back in the early 90's. I first got into Seagal when I saw MFD in '91. Seagal was hot property back then and in a time when the screen was being dominated by the likes of Schwarzenegger and, to a lesser extent, Van Damme, Seagal impressed me with his quiet confidence and ultra hard persona. I remember having a discussion with a friend back then who was adamant that Seagal was by far the hardest out of all the so-called action and martial arts 'stars' of that moment, and few would disagree. 1992, he peaked with Under Siege. That was a long time ago! From then on, from a commercial and critical point of view at least, his career has taken something of a nosedive. Now, 14-15 years on from then, times have changed. Seagal has gotten older, possibly grown a little complacent, his movies have lost the originality and sheen that they once had and personally, I don't think he is anything like the force that he once was. I don't think anyone can argue with that. I think he has had his time and would rather he retired from movies to concentrate on something else rather than keep churning out the same poor quality material of late. I hope he somehow makes a spectacular comeback with a really good, really brutal movie in the style of one of his earlier masterpieces, but personally, I can't see it happening, although I will always be a fan and follow his life and work whatever he decides to do. I still get excited when I watch any one of his movies from the 90's, particularly his first 5.

I first got too into Seagal when I saw MFD in '93-94 in spanish TV,I got really impressed by the randori fight against 4 after he brokes the tights on the ground.
I still think that this is his best fight and one of the best ever filmed fights in the history.
When another action star fight against 4 and makes it real?No one.Jet li make it great, but it´s different of the good times Seagal.Markd for death marked me too...forever

I remember watching H2K and I was hooked since then. I just thought of him as a killing machine, just walking up to someone slapping them in the face and breaking bones. It was a first to me, but his movies have changed. I don't mine at all, but I'll still love the guy no matter what he does.

Steven Seagal brought a style to the idustry that wasn't there before. Does he still have it? Yes...but he needs to keep his heart in it. Get complacent, indifferent, cocky and big headed could hurt him. He has the "stuff" but is he willing to put his all into it?

I think of Clint Eastwood. He used to do action films. He still does some times. He hasn't slowed down or lost popularity any.

I think he(Seagal) doesn't seem to have as much zeal for movies as when he started out. Part of it may he is into Buddhism and his music career more. When you put too much on your "plate"...."stuff" starts to fall off.

I think Seagal has definatly slipped from mainstream action star to DTV fan action star. By that i mean that its now his solid fan base that pretty much keep his career going, most of the general public have given up on him. Back in the early 90's however he was a massive star with great public appeal. I think most people will remember him as a great action star who got rich, famous and let himself go.

Smile dammit!
He'll never go back to his early days.I am just glad he's still in this business, making movies maybe not as good as the early ones, but worth a look. All his films are, even Ticker *ducks*.:D

I believe any actor/actress can be as good as they were when they started, if they want to.

You ever see a rookie teacher. They have so much zeal to teach that they put their all into it. If they keep that passion they can be just as good as when they are ready to retire. Those are the teachers that make the biggest impact on others.

I think at one point that when Steven broke out he was the suavest, coolest and badass action star at all time. I think his bad ass peaked when Marked For Death came out, and he had a die hard following, as well as a general movie going consensus. Then when Under Siege came out everyone jumped on the wagon because he was now out of the Martial Arts action hero mold and into the everything action hero mold. I think Seagal's last best year was 1992 with the release of US. (Even though USII was a great sequel, and Exit Wounds somewhat remerged him) AS far as action stars past and present, I believe he could have been arguably the best action hero of all time- but because of his horrible weight problem, and the shoddy DTV movies I think that he will be forgotten- And in this day an age most younger people have the image of him of "some fat dude with a pony tail", because they haven't seen his classic movies. Late 80's/ early 90's= hottest action star in the world...mid-late 90s & early 00's= washed up.

Kimono Soul squirms for no one! Not even Seagal! It is Kimono Soul who will make Steven squirm! (That, dear ones, is a BIG FAT LIE!) I squirm and giggle!

hes a complete joke, not trying to be mean but that's the opinion people have of him. He hasnt done anything with his career since Under Siege. People see him as a fake loser. He wears fake hair, has voice dubbing in all his movies, has stunt men and stunt walkers, wears trench coats and many layers of clothing to cover up his weight problem even if it is 100 degrees outside.

Seagal is a guy who only cares about himself and thats it. He laughs in our face everytime he makes a movie. He will never be anything more than a B- movie star, he has no chance of ever redeeming himself.

Thats how I and many people see him. Of course theres that lil hope he might one day learn and become a better person and start focusing on movies again, but you know what they say you cant teach an old dog new tricks.
