Belly Of The Beast

The simple truth is Lotussan, you will never hide away with him, and if he stops making movies, you will not see him at all. The quality of the movie is paramount, it has to sell, no sale, no money, poor returns equate to no investors, no investors, no more films. Once you get tagged in Hollywood as a has-been and a money loser (and as yet he is not, but getting close) it's a death sentence.
I so want him to keep making movies, but each time there is a film on the horizen we all hope it will be the good one. sooner or later something has got to give, and if Steven can take a step back, perhaps he will get it right, and stop working with idiot editors and directors.
I too like him heavier, but not jumbo! His voice is wonderful, I don't want to hear some poorly dubbed nobody trying to take off that unique acent. The whole of Lord of the Rings had to be dubbed, due to noisy locations but at least is was dubbed correctly by the actor in the part, and that is what should happen in steven's films. to do otherwise makes his films cheap Bollywood B movies. At long last there are people on this site telling it how it is, and you know what, they are true and dedicated fans, who so want him to do better, because they are aware that not to do so, will be to lose him altogether.

Damn it Lotussan, I said I enjoyed the movie. I just hope that someone can recognize this website enough to read what could be improved for future productions. I guess some notes were taken after The Foreigner and OFAK, but there's much more improvement to come. I am not blaming Steven Seagal for anything. And about the voice-overs. His voice has definitely not changed, because only in a few specific scenes (mostly ones where the monks are involved) is there a change in the pattern of his vocal chords. I don't know what it takes to get through your thick skulls (you see now when I have to repeat myself so many times, it shows something about the character who's not paying attention). The movie was not great! It was fun to watch Mr. Seagal work again, and I hope he keeps at it, but there's much more improvement to be done ahead of him. I don't give a flying f... about the way he looks, because I just plainly cannot see beauty in a man. I just respect his work and all the contributions he has done for the humanity and the society. The mystical thing of the movie is what set me apart. I might not be a believer, but it wasn't done tastefully here. I will keep saying it until you get it (now I know why you people think that grade 8 math is so tough). Steven Seagal has improved his acting, but he gets signed-onto projects that have workers who pay no attention to detail. That is not a way to go in this business if you want to impress the viewing public.

I just watched the movie again, so as to get more detail on some things:
I already talked about video editing, so now I will talk about its audio. The music picked was a change from hip-hop (which was actually welcomed by majority of the audience). The soft rock, and melodic instrumental fit in. However, when it came to special effects, it all went down hill. Pay attention, watch the movie again, and then start arguing (if you can), otherwise keep reading. The bullets hitting the metal of the Hummer sounded like a bronze vase hitting a hardwood floor. The sounds of windows exploding from gunfire were those of fragile bottles crashing to the floor. You hear brand new cars with screeching brakes as they come to a stop. Every gun sounds the same. The silenced pistol that Jake used sounded like the clip ran out after each and every shot that was fired.

The gun fights included people who almost always had their backs to the camera, and Seagal was in the minority of the shots. So you see this 2 minute scene of shooting, where exploding tables and chairs get more air time than the star of the movie.

Then, after all was over, you see Jake coming to his friend and daughter leaning to a wall. The holes in the wall supposedly made by the smuggled American weapons were as large as the girls' heads. Now come on, only a machine gun or a top sniper riffle (the anti-tank type) would be able to make such perfectly made holes. You can rule out the sniper, since there were none and too many holes. The only machine guns were on the Hummers that were too far outside to get through to the middle of the house. Those Hummers only provided lighting, and just showed off their rotational turrets.

Attention must be paid! Lotussan and all others who stand by your ignorance towards the poorly made production must not humour yourselves. You know where to look for humour, and this thread is about the movie Belly of the Beast, which was moved to a review section (so don't get emotional; this is a review that points out things to be improved for next time, but GFT might not get another chance). Take it or leave it; that's all folks (for now)!

Tiggy, I don't think you could begin to know exactly who is going to be doing exactly what with their lives in the future, so don't be telling me what I won't be doing...
It might just be a dream on my part or it might not, for all you know I could have made contact with him, and he could really like me...Of course, I haven't made contact, but if I had you sure wouldn't have ever known about it...
Still, you never know, and we can't rightly or accurately speak for Steven's feelings, now can we?

Lisa, welcome to the forums, I am glad you liked BOTB, seems to have a very big appeal for the feminine crowd...

Yudansha,

When I speak of Steven's beauty it's mostly his spiritualness that I am talking about, he's ruggedly handsome to be exact...Of course I think he's all that, and totally gorgeous, but those things are in the eye of the beholder...
It seems it used to be that you had to be gorgeous to be in the movies,
now they call Johnny Depp the sexiest man alive...Ewwwww, no...
Steven is much more than the stars of today, still very sexy IMHO...

Tiggy, you are the voice of reason crying out in the wilderness, but alas, no one is listening....

And, by the way, anyone in this forum who has mentioned his weight and his obvious breathing problems in BOTB has done so out of concern for Steven's health and well-being, not to slag him for it.

What we - the minority "we", being me, Tiggy and 1/2 of Yudansha - want to see is Steven putting in more of an effort, to give us that which we know he is capable of doing. To be frank, his lack of attention and care in all aspects of his recent efforts, including his own health and appearance, his failure to re-record when necessary, the poor scripts, the poor editing and special effects, and numerous other details that would rarely, in past efforts, get past the director and editors, are all dragging him down into that bottomless pit of "has-been", and that is something we - the 2 1/2 of us - do not want to see.

We want him to go on making movies, yes we do. But giving us poor product means the money will eventually dry up and that means no more movies. People will stop buying and renting the stvs, there will not be sufficient money made, the investors will say, "no" and that will be the end. And encouraging Steven to continue to make bad movies is not the way to keep him with us.

Granted I cannot say who will meet whom in the future, but I would wager healthy money!! Stevens attraction, spiritual or looks are not the issue. What we are trying to get through to the ''I love Steven'' brigade is, that unless there is a vast improvement in the quality of movie he appears in, including attention to detail, continuity, editing and sound, there will be no more Steven movies. He or rather films staring him, has to appeal to a far widder audience than this group.

3 words:Into The Sun.The fact that this film is a Franchise Pictures/Warner Bros. film is a step in the right direction right there. And a 35$ budget is nothing to be sniffed at either.Seagal's gonna be a busy bee shooting in six different countries over the next 3 months(Suzi-he will be filming some scenes in in Turkey!!!).

I also know now who the fight & action directors for this film will be:).I am not allowed to tell you until the guy who updates on IMDB puts it there first.Sorry.The guy still doesn't know who else is in the cast.Top secret is the word!

come get some
You know, it's not that difficult becoming an extra in a movie. It's often a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Major movies have calls for people of a certain look or type to come down to a common area and see how things work out for them in front of the casting director. I'm guessing it's even easier on low budget movies like he is making now.

At least in Hollywood, that's how it often works... I don't know about elsewhere though.

"Lookin fit Nelson"
What I thought about BOTB

I agree with most with this being his best STV flick, I liked it but some things are just really out there in the movie... I like that the pony tail is back but I still think he should lose the weight and spend a little more time applying that gel to that signature hair style cause it looks really messy, I didn't really like the fight scenes that much because they looked way to choreographed, Steven Seagal is the best fight choreographer for himself, I think all the evidence is alraedy in the book (Above the law, MFD OFJ?) if he got in better shape we wouldnt have to see all the way to close ups of his face and to shadowy ones, IM really getting tired of not really getting to see him, he is never really in the camera he is always hidden I dont like that because that carrys on to the fights also where things are slow motioned and people are kicked all the way across huge rooms, dont get me wrong I think the fights in this are alot better then some of the last ones but I really think that his aikido real moves in real time looks so much more convicing, I couldn't help but think how much better this movie would have been 10 years ago, I just really hope we get to see atleast a Exit Wounds Steven, because like i stated before I cant take the action sequences seroiusly or steven on screen even if I can barely catch a glimpse of him, In Exit Wounds atleast we got to see him in action even if it was super slow motioned matrix, I wanna see the guy!!! lol....But all in all Im not gonna add it to my seagal collection but I do think its a step in the right direction, maybe next time he can shed the pounds, shed the radioactive fight scenes, put on a leather coat, put on that shiny gel and then kick some ass....

PS: It was good to see some of the old seagal attitude though, but alot of room for improvement & I liked his partner in crime in this one, but he cant touch Keith David In M4D...

ZenMan

Guess Whos Back !!!!
Belly of the beast is certainly a step in the right direction , have to say that in my own opinion is his best recent film by far ......TF and HPD and OFAK just didnt appeal to me even with seagal in it ....infact i would go as far to say that his mountain dew commercial was better than all three of those films put together........( just my OWN opinion)

Disposition Seagal
I'm not sure that I would say BOTB is his best ever STV though I would agree that it is one of his best most recent films. Hopefully some of his new films will bring out some great stuff as well. :)
