Serena, about films being called with the same title. Bad Boys with Will Smith came long after Bad Boys with Sean Penn, about a U.S. borstal.

Hi, Storm, and thanks! I forgot about the Sean Penn movie. That came out in 1983 and the Will Smith one came out in 1995. Do you know if there has to be a certain time-frame between two movies or if it doesn't matter at all? Not important, just wondering.

If I recall correctly, there are three movies entitled "The Patriot" and all of them came out in about a 10-year period.

Titles generally aren't copyrighted, unless there is a compelling reason why they should be. I could sit down and write a series of novels using most of Agatha Christie's titles, and no one could do anything about it (mostly because she snagged the titles from lines of Shakespeare). The only ones I think would be covered by copyright are those which had one of her character's names in the title, but that's all.

Same goes for films, though not necessarily all of them, all of the time. I expect Disney <sigh> would have something to say if another film tried to use any of their titles.

Thanks, TD. I had wondered about the Patriot movies before with the same title and was curious. I'm not surprised you would know, being a writer! :)

btw - Shouldn't you be heading back to the beach pretty soon? Get going! Bring your sun block. And have a great time!

A couple more hours of work, then an hour at The West Wing, and then I'm off. Driving at night was not as harrowing as I had anticipated (haven't done it in a while, wasn't sure where my night vision was at, and other than nervously dodging transport trucks as a result of hearing about an horrendous accident that happened earlier that day, the trip down wasn't so bad; therefore the trip back should go equally smoothly, although there was a lot more traffic than I thought there would be).

As for sun block - alas! Too late. Normally, I don't sit in full sunlight (which is why my fair complexion has remained fair, and I don't look like a wrinkled old hag from too much sun), but I was reading <TD looks around guiltily> Harry Potter and I forgot to cover up. Sunburned legs resulted. Ouch!

-TD, tearing herself away from the forum so she can get that last little bit of work done and GO

Serena, i'm not aware of any time limit on films having the same title. Sean Penn's Bad Boys was far better than that other travesty!

Different article with a little extra info at the end.

Franchise To Make Star of Seagal in Sun.
The production company optioned two Seagal pictures for development.
By Lisa Johnson.

LOS ANGELES
Steven Seagal is making a comeback, at least as far as Franchise Pictures is concerned. After buying Out of Reach for Seagal to star in, the studio paid mid-six figures for the spec script Into the Sun, an action film written by Seagal and Joe Halpin as another star vehicle for Seagal.

The drama will star Seagal as a retired special agent who is drawn into the treacherous world of the yakuza in order to protect his family. Production is expected to begin by the end of the year.

Seagal and Franchise head Elie Samaha with Franchise’s Phillip B. Goldfine and Tracee Stanley co-producing. Binh Dang will be the associate producer.

And yet ANOTHER article, this one with a quote by Steven.

ART IMITATES LIFE?

Franchise Pictures has paid mid-six figures for the spec "Into the Sun," an action film written by Steven Seagal and Joe Halpin as a star vehicle for Seagal. Elie Samaha made an aggressive deal that will likely put the picture into production by year's end.

The drama will star Seagal as a retired special agent who is drawn into the treacherous world of the yakuza in order to protect his family. Seagal, who last scripted "Secret Smile" and usually does production polishes on films he stars in, enlisted the expertise of Halpin, a 19-year veteran of the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. who has worked the past 11 years as an undercover narcotics detective and done work with the DEA. WMA brokered the deal.

"I was raised in Japan and have been studying Japanese culture for over 30 years," Seagal said. "I've also been an avid student of Kurosawa and was lucky enough to be in Japan with him and the stars and director of the original 'Yakuza' in 1974. I believe we're going to show something that has yet to be seen in American films, and I'm glad we're doing it with Elie and Franchise."

"Into the Sun" will be produced by Seagal and Samaha, who last year bought "The Rescue" for Seagal, a project that has since been retitled "Out of Reach." Phillip B. Goldfine and Tracee Stanley will co-produce "Into the Sun," and Binh Dang will be associate producer. (As reported by VARIETY)

Serena, there is nothing new about these two! Phillip B. Goldfine and Binh Dang were both "producers" on the old site, "StevenSeagal.com"!
If anyone were to blame for the screw-up at StevenSeagal .com message board, it would be these two! They didn't "cause" it but they took NO steps to stop it or control it, either!
Thank you so very much for the article!
God bless,

I never knew that about those two, Mama san. Thanks so much for the explanation. Having only been here three weeks and never at the old site, I discover something new all the time. I appreciate all these little bits of information.

Thanks again (and happy birthday, again!),
Serena.
