I noticed Franchise pictures is going to distribute both "Into The Sun" and "Yakuza". Now considering both movies seem to have almost the same storyline Is it possible that "Into The Sun" is just the new name for "Yakuza" and not a different film? Franchise pictures did change "The Rescue" to "Out Of Reach.

Smile dammit!
Good point. I thought that too but i think it was Mike who pointed out Yakuza is funded and cast seperately.

From the Seagal article "I've also been an avid student of Kurosawa and was lucky enough to be in Japan with him and the stars and director of the original 'Yakuza' in 1974" suggests that "Into The Sun" is the remake of "Yakuza"
It's possible everyone is getting the production data from IMDB and their data could be wrong. It just seems strange that Franchise Pictures would finance two different movies with similar story lines. But who knows.

I have noticed over at IMDB that the previous writers for Yakuza(three French-Canadians)have gone from the Yakuza listing!Could this be Into The Sun after all??Then again the premise for this Yakuza is slightly different.

God knows what to think.

I thought that also when i first saw this information and it could be possible that they are both the same film..The new information says that Seagal wrote "Into the Sun"..If this is the case it cant be Yakuza which is based on the 1974 film of the same name..That movie was not written by Seagal. Unless Seagal has re-written the old Yakuza script and thus the plot change that we have been seeing. I find it too odd for him to be making Yakuza and Into the Sun which sound very similar..
It would have to be a name change and re-written by Seagal because he did not write the original script for Yakuza..I'm beginning to think it is the same film though...

One thing i did notice over at IMDB is that "Yakuza" is listed as being distributed by a company called Hannibal Pictures Inc. [ca] so maybe their will be two movies with a Yakuza story line.

I think Hannibal Pictures is just the distribution for Canada(hence the ca).Warner Bros/Franchise was also listed as a distributor a while back but for some reason it has now been removed.

Its beginning to sound like Yakuza is being turned into a STV film. I hope they keep Corey Yuen and Donny Yen on board but that may even be in question if this is only getting a 20 million dollar budget..
Whats going on here...? I was so looking forward to seeing Yakuza but I'm beginning to wonder now what we can expect..

Donny Yen is cool.
He was in both Blade 2(which I hated too much gore to try and make up for the lack of plot) and Highlander Endgame
