The dreaded weed? I mean tobacco, not wacky baccy.;)
It's ironic that cigarette packets say "Smoking can kill"when you know they all ignore it. People always presume i was a smoker because of my throat problem. They could not be further off. I have never smoked. So who likes them here?

Used to. Quit years ago, the first time I tried.
Best thing I've done for this body. :D

Never really had cravings per se, but I remember for a year after I quit I would dream I was inhaling, then would wake up sucking air. :D

Both my parents smoked in a teenie tiny house with five kids. My first cigarettes I experimented with were my dad's Camel's. Amazing I ever had another one after that! :D

It's the law here to have such labels like that (some even graphic!)

I don't smoke. Never have, and never plan to.

Never have smoked-ironically I use to like to keep a candy cigarette hanging out of my mouth when I was little though :)

No...never have...

The way I see it...you drink (alcohol) you get drunk.
You smoke pot you get high...
What do you get from smoking cigarettes? I don't get it, but that's just me.

Both my parents, or rather, all my parents - my mother, my father and my stepmother - they all smoked. As a result, I was left wheezing in the wind when I was diagnosed with severe allergies at age 8. Allergic to basically everything I breathed. (Thank you, parental units.)

My parents didn't provide any treatment for me. It wasn't until I was out on my own and having serious trouble breathing at certain times of the year that I finally started getting allergy shots. They helped immensely; I don't take them now, though my allergist thinks I should. Well, some day, when I have the money... (shots aren't covered).

I've never had the desire to smoke, and to this day, I get wheezy when downwind of a smoker. And, having lived without in-house smokers for over 20 years, the foul smell of stale, lingering cigarette smoke about a person hits me with a wallop. I've never had any desire to try that weed nor any other as a consequence.

My father quit smoking when he was 70 years old. He's suffered numerous lung infections because of smoking for nearly 60 years, and now is "short of air" as he puts it.

There is nothing glamorous or cool about smoking cigarettes. Aside from causing cancer (I know the tobacco companies say it doesn't, but....) and contributing to heart disease and stroke, it turns your teeth yellow, makes your breath smell bad, ruins your sense of taste and smell and has a deletorious effect on the health of the people who are forced to live with you in your environment.

In answer to Jalu's question, it acts as both a stimulant and as a tranquilliser. That's why smokers have such a hard time quitting; there's a pyschological addiction as well as a physical one.

Tried it as a teen and oooooohhhhhhh yuck, I absolutely hate them, and second hand smoke is the worst...I will never be a smoker, as it is I can't breathe in this house, and everything stinks, and that stuff coats everything with an icky film...None for me thanks...

My mom's PR Health firm is responsible for the TRUTH commercial and Kick Butts Day, a national day where Kids in America rally up to help get rid of Tobacco. I met President Clinton during that day.

But it is so stupid, can it not be any clearer?? Smoking can kill you! What else needs to be said??

Thanks a lot little dragon, I quit before, but picked it up again because I gained 40 pounds, and I lost all the weight, now I've been working out daily, so maybe I can keep the weight off and keep quit. I'm betting nicotine gum tomorrow.

Keep it up, you can do it, just be mentally strong.

Well, both my parents smoked when I was a kid - I breathed it second-hand. I smoked a couple years during high school but quit when I was pregnant with my first child - any scent, even food, made me sick. I remember coughing constantly when I was small - there was no door on my room and the smoke moved right in. I just thought I had a "cough" when it was really chronic bronchitis. When my family had to move back in with my aging mom to help her out, my bronchitis returned. The forced-air heating system moved it all over the house even though she lived in a separate area. My father died of a heart attack at age 65. My brother died of smoking complications in his 60's. My mom actually lived to 93 although she developed alzheimers in her 60's. She finally "quit" after a stroke - the military hospital didn't allow smoking there (she was a vet). I try to stay away from the stuff myself. Neither of my sons smoke. I won't allow it in my home - people have to go outside - no matter who they are.

If one wants to quit smoking, good luck! Weight gain? Just start a good exercise program and find a healthy hobby that will keep your mind busy.

The gum is a great idea, Clement! I was going to suggest that when I read your first post. That is what many doctors are recommending now even over the patches.

Good luck, Clement. :) And if it doesn't work today, start again tomorrow. Don't quit quitting!

Iam guilty i smoked for 16 years but i gave up "cold turkey" 4 years ago and i havent looked back...when i go near people who smoke now i nearly get sick from the stench and when you stop smoking your food tastes better but the most important thing your health improves...

Interesting. No-one smokes then! Yes it's a vile habit. I hate the smell of it on clothes etc when you are in a house of heavy smokers. The pleasure they get eludes me. Any yes Kickingbird, smokers do so at the back door, not in the house here.
Good luck at quitting Clement:D
Oh,i used to smoke a cigar at Xmas when i went out with my dad for a drink. How we all laughed as i spluttered it out! My brother just puffed away,as he has smoked many years. Actually cigar smoke is much more tolerable, though just as deadly i'm sure.

More effective than the gum or the patches is a strong state of mind to quit smoking. ;)

Oh, littledragon--Things aren't always that easy. Addictions are very difficult to overcome, and many, many strong-minded people can't overcome some of their worst addictions. It takes a combination of different things.

My only addiction is food, (well, and you know who, hehe) and I am not doing too well at controlling my eating, but I am getting better to overcome it...
Steven is my biggest inspiration...If he can do it then I can, too...
Besides those who love you will stick by you through thick and thin...
