Could someone please give a quick definition of "STV"? I checked the "Forum Search" on the index page to try to find something, but nothing comes up.

Well, thank you, TD. I figured it would be something simple. You wouldn't believe the weird things that came up when I did a search on Google. Thanks again.

Whew, Amos - Nice to know it's not just me! I figured it was either risk sounding dumb or remain ignorant. Maybe we should start a new forum for the abbrevation-impaired, eh?

Lotus, I guess it didn't hit me until I read your comment, but I just realized I have never seen a Steven Seagal movie on the big screen! How pitiful is that??!! :( I have seen every movie many times, but only on video. Boy, it's true what they say, all work and no play...... I've GOT to get a life!!! -- A social life, that is. ;)

I never saw a Seagal movie on the big screen, either. In fact, all through the 90s, I completely disdained going to see his movies at all. Some time in the mid-90s, I think, he came to Toronto for a seminar (not aikido, Buddhism, I think) and there were posters all over the place in my neighbourhood, and whenever I saw one in passing, I simply rolled my eyes and walked away, shaking my head and muttering imprecations.

Suddenly, in my dotage, I'm a convert.

Better late than never, eh....

Amos: you bet.

Alas, all through the 90s I was under the mistaken impression that it wasn't seemly to want to see action movies (although the only two "dates" I went on in 1990, one we saw Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, and I *loved* it, and the other was Cyrano de Bergerac, whereupon I realised I had secret passion for preposterous adventure movies).

Ah, well, with age comes wisdom. And regrets.

I was in Egypt for 3 years, and that's when I first saw him on the big screen...
I unfortunately had to see a lot of them on video...
I was very impressed with his style and his fighting, though, and did really start liking martial arts movies back then...
We did come back here on vacation once, and I managed to see Under Siege at the theater...
I think I went twice...
Believe it or not, I am not sure if I saw Exit Wounds at the theater, I think so...
All I know is, I have worn out the video, and I think that is the time this adoration really started for me...
I really regret never seeing a lot of them at the theater, though...
However, I wasn't near as drawn to him then as I am now...
I don't even know when I first heard that he was a Buddhist...
I guess you could really start suspecting something from seeing The Glimmer Man, though...
If he was ever in my area for a Dharma thing, oh boy!

come get some
Unfortunately, I haven't seen a single Seagal film on the big screen. I just don't have the kind of time to go out and see any movies in fact, mostly I just catch stuff when it comes out on DVD (or if I'm feeling patient, wait until it hits TV)

Thank heaven for home cinema. :D

Curiousity..since I have never seen any movie in another language-I was wondering what it is like for someone in another country watching Seagal movies (for example) do they actually use his voice or do have to have to watch an english version to actually hear his true voice?

They sometimes do dubbing, but the one I saw was in egypt was english and had arabic subtitles added...I think because it was a bootleg (maybe)and also because they take the film and edit out things that are offensive to the muslims...

Amos, just the last weekend, I rent Fire Down Below, and they didn't have the original, so I had to watch Mr. Seagal with other voice, Fire Down Below was the first movie I saw of him, it was on TNT, and it was in Portuguese, I think you get used to it... but I prefer the original voice of course !!!
