Jack Reacher

If anyone is a fan of the author Lee Child, they would know of his character Jack Reacher. I'm currently reading his latest novel and I was struck by how cool it would be if Seagal were to play the character of Jack Reacher in a movie of a Lee Child novel.

A film of the Child novel 'One Shot' is currently in development and casting of the character of Reacher is currently unknown.

For those who don't know, Reacher is a 6'5" tall, 250lb highly decorated former Military Police Officer, who has now retired and spends his days drifting around the US, solving crimes and trying to help people with problems.

Rock and roll...

Don't know the author or the novel. But the story has potential.

Any idea on who is producing? Perhaps we could persuade them to cast Seagal as Reacher?

Peace

Lee Child and Jack Reacher

Nobody tracks down Jack Reacher unless he wants them to find him. No phone, no permanent address, no family to call. No trail...except for the broken hearts, maybe. But someone awfully clever leaves a coded message for Reacher. A message that will bring Reacher, and a handful of other clever minds he could name—in his sleep if he had to—together for the first time in almost a decade.

The author's name, Lee Child, sounds familiar, although I have not read any of his books.

The above Jack Reacher sounds an interesting character, and, yes, there are a number of actors who have, or who are still acting in their senior years, where the first actor that springs to mind is Raymond Burr, who starred in that TV series:- "Ironside".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ironside_(TV_series)

"Ironside" may seem a bit outdated now, but it was excellent for its time, and in some episodes of that same series of "Ironside" Raymond Burr actually played his role by sitting in a wheelchair!

I am a bit 'brain dead' at the moment, lol!, can anyone think of any other senior actors along these same lines?

There again, I suppose it is what someone does term as being senior, or old, or whatever, as being aged 56, is still considered by many to be quite a young age these days, especially with people now living far longer, such as into their eighties and nineties etc...

Every good character for Seagal would be cool, better if he could make good sequels and create a new kind of role.

But always kicking asses,of course

Hi Latinojazz,

Yes, I totally agree with you, and, yes, he should try to create a new kind of unique acting role for himself, but I also wonder if his hands are somewhat tied in that respect, or tied in the sense as to available roles that are actually open to him in the film world.

There again if he made his own movies, in which he starred in himself, that would not pose so much of a problem, but having said that a film, as we already know, costs tons of money to make, where in turn it is most important to get the genre of that film correct in order for it to not only break even in terms of production costs etc, but also in order to make at least some kind of worth while profit in the long run in terms of subsequent film sales.

Although, having said that he also seems to diversify into other areas of the arts, and not just films, such as his having and playing in his own jazz band, 'Thunderbox', not to mention that band's musical tours, which stretch far and wide, and not just within the U.S.A.

Musical tours, depending on the actual number of stops for individual musical performances, can be both emotionally and physically draining in themselves for any musical artist, which gets worse as they become older in terms of their age, as there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes, which many people are not aware of.

Therefore, he in turn is having to do quite a balancing act between his acting and his music, and at the end of the day he is only one man, whether actor, or musician, in that respect, so maybe he does not have the time to channel his energies into creating new roles for himself even if he wanted to achieve that objective. Another, reason why he may instead just accept those acting roles that have been offered to him, and where in the case of those said roles he only accepts those that are of interest to him, even though some of those said roles do not do full justice to both his acting and martial art skills.

I do not know what is up with both the film world and/or the music world in terms of apparent repetition of the same theme, where in turn there are so many remakes using only a slightly different format, or whatever. Easy way to make money, but cannot be said to be very inventive/imaginative, and often in turn results in being quite boring after a while!

Rainbow, Prince of Pistols has been cancelled - it will not be made. We have that information on this site in one of the threads in the Movies section.

Thanks TDWoj for letting me know that "Prince of Pistols" has been cancelled!

Sorry about that, as I was only in this instance trying to make a contrast between his current music and his current film in terms of his possible time that he actually does have remaining in his busy career in order to say for him to be able to create a new unique character role for himself in films, say like Jack Reacher, that was the starting point of this particular thread. Also that imdb.com website I used as a quick source of reference is usually kept pretty much up to date, which has clearly not proved to be the case in this instance!!

Therefore, just for the purpose of this thread, could you, or someone else, give me an example of what Steven Seagal is working on, and/or planning to work on at the moment film wise, and/or TV series wise, that could be used for the above said contrast purposes? Thanks!

According to the latest news Seagal is no longer in the running for the part of Jack Reacher and it is now Tom Cruise who is most likely to get cast. As with Nathan Algren in The Last Samurai (2003), another role that Seagal wanted, personally I think Cruise would be a better option as he is currently a bigger box office draw than Seagal and will therefore be able to get more money spent on the production of the film. If Seagal were cast the film would likely be a low budget DTV affair. Also Seagal is tied into production of both Lawman and a rumoured second series of True Justice so it is unlikely he would have time in his schedule to shoot a big budget film.
