New Official Seagal Website - any suggestions??

Hey Everybody:
So I met with Steven last month because he wants me to redesign his official website. :) We are hoping to streamline the content and update it more frequently. I'm hoping you all could give some input about what you would like to see?
For example, one thing I'm working on is a "Steven Tracker", where you could see on a map where Steven is, and maybe the last few locations as well. Any other ideas? We really want to make it for the fans.

P.S. We won't be doing a forum, since this site is doing such an excellent job of it already. Steven was especially impressed with the anount of dedication that has gone into it. Maybe even link to this forum from the site, if the admins approved.

Welcome Russdogg

Very interesting post and I think the administrators of this site are to be commended for keeping this site "clean" and welcoming to those fans who have a genuine interest in Mr. Seagal and his everyday life.

There is a certain attractiveness to the current "official" site and unfortunately I have been one of the vocal critics of the sad state it quickly seems to fall into i.e., old data, incorrect information and sloppy housekeeping.

I agree the forums should be removed, the current official site does link to this one as well as a couple of others in overseas countries. There is a French and Slovak noted. Besides that our own Suziwong has a very nice website that could be shared if she gives permission (I know you will Suzi!)

The filmography listing on the official site is so sad. They can't even list the character's full name, never mind the current (changed name) of the most recent film.

Some of the things this list seems to hunger for are trailers of new films and 'behind the scenes' features. Surely Mr. Seagal would not object to featuring a short and quick brief on what is happening on his latest project(s). Such samples only fire the fans desire to see the finished product.

I'd like to see an occasional (once a month or so) personal visit to the site by the man himself. Make himself available to answer questions from fans. Live chat would be great and probably overwhelm the site. Still a feeling of personal contact from him would do much to satisfy the raging desires of many fans.

I'd like to see new and current photos posted regularly. The current page is very sloppy and on both my computers the link icons across the bottom of that page end up in the middle of the photos.

No matter how you set it up, leave room for constructive criticism - note all you reading this I said constructive criticism. That means, don't complain unless you can offer a valid improvement as a suggestion.

We, and I am sure I speak for many of us here, want to hear more about the philanthropy Steven engages in on a worldwide basis. We are aware he does much good without seeking publicity - but we find it anyway and it would be less than self-serving if it were included on his personal site.

I think I am running out of room here and will have to end this for the moment. I am sure others will have more to add.

This sounds great Russdogg. The main thing I would like to see on the official site is uptodate information which would keep it feeling professional.

A 'Steven Tracker' sounds a fantastic idea, finding out where Steven is seems to be a major interest to us here.

Myst has listed a lot of good ideas I agree with. Perhaps Steven could put out a monthly message to his fans on the site? Just a short paragraph saying 'hi this is what I'm working on'. Perhaps also a spiritual/inspirational phrase for us all to ponder on that month?

OK now I'm pushing it here, the occasional competition to win some Steven goodies like signed a signed copy of a new DVD release?

Good luck Russdogg, I'm looking forward to seeing the new revamped Official site. :)

In other celebrity fan sites the celebrity has anoccalsional word to add to the site it fires up the deisres of all the fans to keep Steven in their focus and his eandeavours which are many.
also i reiterate orangutang's suggestion that Steven should include more countries than he does so now for visits, e.g. Indonesia, South America, Malaysia and especially Australia where he has a huge following.

hi,
yes, that website is really only partially operable. I would suggest to built-in a simple mail box for incoming mails that would pop in directly to him.
cheers, cathleen

Hey Russdog, I think I have the best idea ever. Why don't you just get with Craig and make this an official site. It does what everyone asks most of the time. The only thing that is unavailable is Seagal. So my suggestion would be to get Seagal to attend the site because that seems to be what the fans want. Craig's site has been strong for years now. It is consistent. It is ACTIVE. I feel there is something to be said for Craig in all this. Thanks Craig you are best next thing to potato chips. Pur

It would be very cool if this were the official site, but I wonder if that would mean we would lose some of the autonomy we have here to say/do what we want.
Presumable the official website would need space for things like sales of his products and DVDs.
An occasional word from The Man on what he's up to would be FANtastic!

I disagree

Very simply - by being "Unofficial" this site maintains an autonomy that would be lost if it became part of the official site.

Here we do and say as we choose. The 'rules' laid out by the administrators are followed. We make our own decisions on what we want/allow here and while some of the dreams expressed here would be very nice, Mr. Seagal needs/should run his own site in the manner he thinks best.

In asking for suggestions of the fans for his own site, he has sent this group a tremendous compliment showing respect and trust in our judgment and desires. I hope he takes what we have replied to heart and the new "Official" site is much better than the old one.

Both Russdogg and Mr. Seagal should be aware that there is a great hunger for some sort of personal contact among his fans. That is confirmed by the repeated comments on this thread. Just to know he sees and hears what we have to say can lift a spirit tremendously. We aren't here because we want to see him fail - we all look forward to his next endeavor with the greatest hopes for success. We all send him good thoughts of encouragement and an official site should do its best to promote his efforts be it through films, music tours, or his philanthropy. He may do good deeds and not look for applause or attention, but we want to know- perhaps in our own small way we can carry bits of that work onward. When he stands to speak out for injustice, we want to add our own voices to his.

As fans, we are all here for our own selfish reasons. Most of us are here for honest respectful reasons. In any case, we are here and we would like to see his site standing right next to ours in harmony and in a symbiotic way.

Myst - (rattling on again!)

No steeven

A forum requires way too much care taking. This site has Craig and how many administrators watching over it?

The forum at the old site fell apart from the spamming and the porn that managed to find it's way there. That and the coarse, negative comments that served no purpose. You want to read those nasty rants - go to IMDB where no one cares what is said.

Here we self police ourselves and at the first sign of spamming or offensive language the poster is stopped and sent away. People here can offer a negative opinion without falling into the crude coarse trap found elsewhere. You don't like a film or his music you can say so. You can disagree with others and add your comments as long as you don't sling language or crap at the others.

I'm disagreeing with you and doing my best to explain why. Quite truthfully a forum at the Official Site would require 24 hours watching and maintenance. I don't think even Mr. Seagal's pockets would hold out to that expense. It's called slings and arrows, steeven. Every Seagal hater out there would target the site and turn it into a merciless harangue of the man and his works. They did it before and they would do it again. Mr. Seagal does not need or want that. He is human, after all, and if I read the threads on IMDB taking them as directed at me personally I would be not only hurt but crushed by the vitriol spewed forth. So needless and unworthy of one human being towards another.

You know what Russdog? After reading comments to your post I am in agreement with you. Craig is doing a beautiful job and things should remain just as they are for now. I must say I think some input from him would be about the only thing that would be of any consequence. I don't think you will have many hits on a site without a forum. We are here because we like to dialogue. Pur. So nice of you to share with us that you had met with him.

I think a personal appearance or monthly news letter from Mr Seagal would be deeply appreciated by his fans and the Steven tracker is a fantastic idea! Some kind of contest for a small token would be a nice idea.It is great that He has seen this site and was Impressed with it.

Hey everybody, these suggestions are awesome. i really appreciate it! So here are some of the things I'm hearing from everyone:

  • Updated and current information! - this is a must
  • Info on Steven's current charity works - there are a lot!
  • Regular communication from Steven - possibly a blog or video post (both?)
  • Current location - Steven tracker? ;)
  • Sneak peaks or behind-the-scenes type of information on upcoming projects
  • Question & Answer section - maybe Steven answers a random question each month from the fans?

Please keep the great ideas coming! I'll be meeting with Steven again some time soon to present ideas and talk more about it. Although he is always extremely busy, he really wants this site to be a success with his fans and is willing to make the extra effort of answering questions and stopping by to say hi.

I think you've captured the thoughts there Russdog.

It's great to hear that Steven will be more active in his official website soon and it will be much appreciate by us all. Any idea of a timescale when the new look site could be up and running?
