Hello All,

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Gary Gabelhouse and I'm from Nebraska. My major interest is the martial arts. I have studied Karate and Kobudo (ancient weapons) for the past 15 years. I have studied Daitoryu Aikijujitsu for about 10 years. Daitoryu is the forerunner of Aikido. I would say that the Aikido Steven Seagal does is very "Daitoryuish."

I have a media research firm and am also a recently published author. My first book "Dreams of the N'dorobo" is now available. You can check out my web site at www.gabelhouse.com .

My hobbies include bonsai cultivation; oil painting; pottery; and all outdoor pursuits--mountaineering, x-country skiing, canoeing and adventure travel. I have spent a lot of time living and climbing in Africa, Europe, South America and Asia. I do yearly trips to Japan to train martial arts. I also do an annual retreat to the Shingon Buddhist monasteries in Koyasan Japan.

I am very taken by Steven Seagal's dedication to his art and his spirituality. Sure, he has his warts, but don't we all. :)

Glad to be here.

Best Regards,
Gary Gabelhouse

Stories to tell...

Folks,

Thanks for the warm welcome to the group. As one of you said, "You have some stories to tell."

Well, I guess I do. Writing my first book, "Dreams of the N'dorobo" was more a job for memory than creativity. About 90% of the incidents written as fiction actually happened. For example, there IS an old, N'dorobo Shaman who lives out from Naro Moru, at the base of Mt. Kenya. He was a regular figure in the Mt. Kenya climbing scene in the 1970's and 80's. Seems as if he could somehow get himself up very high on the mountain over very technical ground and be back at his cook fire before dawn.

I saw him one night, dressed in Colobus monkey skins and sandals at Kami Tarn at over 15,000 ' over very technical ground. Concerned that he was in trouble, I asked him if he needed help. He replied, "Did I need your help to get up here, m'zungu?" My friend Vince Fayad once saw him on top of Nelion--one of the summits of Mt. Kenya. Nelion is a quite stiff, technical climb. How he got up there is quite mysterious.

All the stories for now. Again, thank you for your warm welcome to the group.

Best Regards,
Gary G.

manic origins

interesting origins ...

As I remember, I recall watching an interview with Steven Seagal (mid 90's) where the interviewer actually referred to the Seagal 'craze' as Seagalomania. (so I wouldn't go as far as call the origins starting with tora ... lol :=)
