Me first! Me first! Age before beauty! <grin>

I'm still learning the finer points of Photoshop, but once I've got the process learned, I'd be happy to oblige!

ROTFLMHO!

On another note....

They've come! they've come! The four dvds I ordered (seems like so long ago!) have finally arrived!

I know what I'm going to be doing this weekend...

...after I go out and buy a dvd player, that is. (details, details)

Unless they're compatible with the dvd player in my iMac, then I can watch them on my desktop - talk about getting up close and personal, though....

<-T, melting into a puddle in anticipation>

:D :D :D

The four I've seen - Under Seige and Under Seige II; Exit Wounds; Glimmer Man.

Had a moment of panic when it looked like they sent me the formatted version when I wanted widescreen, but to my surprise, the DVDs have both - formatted on one side, widescreen on the other!

I'm contemplating which four to buy next....

I'm thinking Above the Law, Marked for Death, Hard to Kill and Fire Down Below. I haven't seen any of those (at least, not in their entirety), so I'll have the pleasure of seeing them for the first time, when I finally get them!

:D :D :D

It seems to be Region 1, these DVDs. What's the issue vis-a-vis regions?

One interesting thing I noticed about The Glimmer Man - the version they ran on TBS Superstation is *not* the theatrical release version. Obviously, it was edited for content - a lot of the fight scenes were truncated (the, um, ball grabbing bit in the restaurant, case in point), and, of course, all the exceptional language was bleeped - but on TBS Superstation, there were two scenes added that aren't on the DVD. One was between Campbell and Cole's wife, outside of the hospice where she works, where Campbell tells her Cole is under investigation and tries to pump her for Cole's past, and the other is a scene between Cole and his wife, where she expresses her worry that Cole is going all withdrawn and strange "like he did before".

One other thing I noticed: they really ought to hire better continuity people.... ;)

This is interesting: on the side that's widescreen, the disc says it's Region 1, 122 minutes long. On the side that's formatted, there's no region, and it's only 92 minutes long.

eh?

Yes, I've got an iMac that plays DVDs (for once I was smart and got the top of the line - well, at the time it was top of the line, now it's three years old - machine. DVDs were hardly out there in 2000. Mind you, not all DVDs are compatible with Apple (as I discovered with Shrek).

I have to say the picture quality was terrific (of course, I was only a foot away from the screen, but even sitting way back, the picture quality was excellent), and even the sound was pretty good, considering I was just using the internal speakers.

I liked the closing credits song, very much, too!

Well here's a pretty straight to the point explanation from a web page(saves me having to type)

What is DVD Region Protection?
Perhaps you've recently bought, or thought of buying, a DVD reproducer. You probably don't know that the DVD reproducers sold in common retail stores have a little feature called Region Protection. What is it?

The movie industry has divided the world in six regions:
Region 1 includes the US and Canada,
Region 2 includes Europe and Japan, and so on.
It has pressured electronics and software firms to lock reproducers into one of these regions, so that a disc purchased in the US will not play in a reproducer purchased in Europe.
Discs only play in reproducers of the same region. Typically, specialized magazines and industry spokespeople cite one of several factors to explain Region Protection:

Since movies open at different times throughout the world, people could conceivably buy the DVD in the US before it opens in their own country, thus damaging movie theater business.
Some people could buy the DVD and set up an illegal movie theater to compete with traditional ones.
People could mistakenly buy discs that don't include audio or subtitles in their native language.
In my opinion, while all these are certainly important reasons, they don't warrant making artificial barriers. If I want to buy my discs in the US and play them in Spain, that's certainly nobody's business. And if you want to buy a DVD on a trip, or buy a cheap reproducer in Taiwan, you should be able to do so.

How to avoid Region Protection
Buy a modified player capable of playing different regions. I buy mine from Mundolaser.
If you're lucky you'll be able to watch discs from several regions in:
Your stand-alone reproducer
Your Mac
Your Windows PC: you'll need software, and perhaps firmware
Complain about region protection to salespeople, manufacturers and others. One day they're bound to listen.

PS:There's also Macrovision(copy guard) to to get around if you like to make copies...and there's a new RCE(Region Code Enhancement) some of the companies are trying(very few) that's supposed to detect a region free player and not allow the disk to play...
BTW: though they state Region 1...both Half Past Dead & The Foreigner come up on my PC as region and macro free right out of the package......which means that they will play in any DVD player in any part of the world and can be copied no problem....

Lots of cut scenes.

there seems to be a great deal of footage that didn't make the final edit of Fire Down Below. As mentioned it looks as though the gas station originally blew up but for some reason they edited this out for the final film. One trailer also shows Marg Helgenberger firing a shotgun though in the final vesion of the film she's not involved in the action in any way.

Steve, you should test your signature in the test area - it's just coming out as a URL!

Thanks for the info, John...I am still confused, but I can go back to it, I think I understand why the regions are different now, it actually has to do with regions, who would have guessed that!
