Stallone to Direct Statham and Li!!!

Sylvester Stallone is set to direct and star in a hot, new action film.

Action icon Sylvester Stallone has inked a deal to direct, write, and star in The Expendables. Stallone is best known for his work in the “Rambo” and “Rocky” franchises. At his side will be Jason Statham (The Transporter, Snatch, Crank), and international action star Jet Li is in the final stages of hammering out his contract, according to Variety. The film is being put together under the Nu Image / Millennium Films banner, the company that released the most recent “Rambo” installment.

Stallone is currently inside a two-picture deal with the studio, and the other film is anticipated to be another Rambo sequel, Variety reports. The action film is about a team of mercenaries that takes the job no one else wants, and follows them as they liberate the people of a South American country from an oppressive dictator. Shooting is scheduled to start in February in Costa Rica and Louisiana.

How freaking cool is that!!

Now just let Van Damme and Seagal join the club an we have a 80s - Actionhero movie.

Sounds good, but will the movie be any good? Who plays the good guys and the bad guys?

I think they're all members of the merc team by the sound of it. There's some assumptions Dolph will be a bad guy, because he's best known as a bad guys from his biggest films. There's also guesswork that Jet Li might be a bad guy, and Sly also hinted "Jet Li and Dolph get it on!" I'm not sure though, when he mentioned Dolph's involvment he also said it'd be an interesting bunch of mercanarys. So I assume they'll all be on the same side.
Incidentally, Van Damme turned down the part that's now gone to Lundgren.

Sly also wants Forest Whittaker, so I'd guess he'd play the dictator.

Yeah Statham is very cool and a great action hero. Does most of his own stunts including driving stunts. Transporter 3 is coming out in the UK on December 5th...I'll be there on opening day!!
