Those who know God do not deliberatly spit in his face and say I do not care about you and what you said in the Bible. We all have our shortcomings. We all make mistakes. We all are not perfect. I know I will never be good enough, or be able to do enough to get to Heaven. I know that is why Jesus died for me and the whole world. Jesus is the bridge. It brings me great comfort to know God loves me so much he would send his only son to die for my transgressions, that if I would believe and trust in him I would recieve his free gift of eternal life through Jesus. Sounds too simple, and too good to be true? It was never meant to be hard or difficult.

Standing up to God and throwing your fist at him gives me this word picture. A one hundred pound nerd starting a fight with Mr. Seagal even though he has never fought before and thinks he can kick Mr. Seagals butt. Just a thought.

What are everyone elses thoughts and beliefs on the topic? I hope with all the different beliefs here we can all share without being ridiculed our shut out.:)

My dear confused one fear and belief are too different things no matter what baseless retort you resort to. The problem with Christianity is that most Christians don't know their own beliefs, and go on spreading ignorance.
BTW that is not an attack that is an observation.

All the quotes are very nice, but are you immune to poison?

You see the Bible also says that those with faith in God would be able to drink poison and not die.

'Please open your Bible and read the Gospel of Mark, chapter 16, verse 16, 17 and 18' to read it out loud. It says, 'He who believes and is baptized will be saved but he who does not believe shall be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe in my name. They shall cast out devils, they shall speak in tongues, they will handle snakes and if they drink poison it will not hurt them and they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover'.

If you have 'real faith' you will be able to drink poison and not die.
Let me know...

If you cannot do that either the Bible is wrong or you are a fake.
Preach to me when you can.

Remember....it's the word of God not mine.

Jalu, Never did I say that I try to plant the seed of fear in people. I said God fearing people. A God fearing person is someone who believes in God.
Proverbs 8:13 "Thefear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the forward mouth, do I hate"
Proverbs 10:27 "The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened."
Proverbs 14:26 "In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
Proverbs 14:27 "The fear of Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death."
Proverbs 19:23 "The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited by evil."
Proverbs 23:17 "Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all day long."
There are so many more, but i believe I've made my point.

And Hallarian, how do I scare you?

I see where this is going again. Some faiths are really not welcomed to share here and it doesn't take long for it to become apparent. What would happen if someone had the audacity to attack Buddhism or some other belief here. There would be a major uproar, and I wouldn't blame them. Where is the respect? I complained about this same problem not too long ago. Are all faiths really wecome to share here or not. You can not expect everyone to agree. We are all different. I will not attack someone elses faith, but I do not want to see someone else (a new member no less) get their faith trashed too. Don't go complaining to Craig if you are going to lash out at others for their contribution to the forum. I want to see everyone get treated fairly and treated the same here. My two cents. Take it to the bank if you want.

I am not a Christian who spreads the Word and not know what I am talking about.
First off let me explain the fear of God to you guys. When I say fear of God i do not mean I am afraid of Him at all times. The fear of God is the fear of His wrath. The fear of the Lord is how I became saved. I knew that if I was not saved I would go to hell, and that is God's wrath. I mean if you do not believe in God you surely will not believe in His wrath, and you will not believe you will go to hell. And that's cool. This is just my belief.
God is the most loving, caring, beautiful God. He is great in all ways.
But He will have no patience and no care for those who do not believe in He, and who is not washed in the Blood of the Lamb come Judgement Day. This is God's wrath. I do not teach nor explain to put fear in you about God. When He touches you and you see that He is truely real you will already have that fear on your own. The fear of going to hell.
Jalu, about the poison...If you read chapter 16 you will see that God was telling them to go and preach. God was with them and worked with them.
And I quote Mark 16:20 "And they went forth, and preached everywhere, and the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following."
In other words God helped them to show these things like when they lay their hands on the sick and they are healed. Or they drink the poison and not die. This is Jesus helping them show the people that He is true and real. Showing them things that seem impossible. But all things are possible with Jesus.
If you handed me a cup of poison and said if your God is real then you will not die from this poison. Yes I would absolutly drink it. That is my faith I believe fully and truely that God would not let me die just to show you He is true and real.
You have to keep in mind though that these poeple were called by God to do this. Like a preacher is called on by God to do this. It's not like just going to college to become a preacher. Only a true and real preacher is called to preach by God. You see that not all Christians are preachers. And even though all the saved will go to Heaven not all people will have the same amount of jewels in their crown.
In other words God calls on the people who are as close to him as possible. The people who are steady in their Bible reading, prayers, witnessing.
It like in the old testement when people had to go to preist to confess their sins and the preist prayed to God for their forgivness. This was until Jesus died on the cross. the vail was broken between God and man. Now Jesus is our mediator to God. Why did we go to preist because they were called on by God.
And Jalu I am not a preacher And I am not preaching to you only explaining my belief.

"Preach to me when you can"... lose the attitude. If you can't speak about it in a calm manner. Please don't dicuss this with me.
See you just assume that all Christian are preaching to you. Well I am not all Christians. Some of us are very nice and have consideration for all people and their beliefs.
You could have asked me to explain how I feel on the situation, not tell me to preach to you like you feel that's all we do.
At the same time I know that typed words can be mislead because there is no sound behind it to tell wheather someone is attitudy about it.
So if I misunderstood your voice I appologize, but if not please keep an open mind, and know that all Christian aren't trying to cram God down your throat. Especially me. Because i want respect for my belief just as I give everyone else respect.
Also I enjoy talking to you about this, and I am glad that you are one who who actually reads and knows what the Bible says. Most non believers haven't even cracked it open. I really respect that.
Thanks... Tara

Spirituality

We sentient beings are much larger than the sum of our parts, and perhaps the greatest of these is our spiritual being. Our spiritual being is the source of some of comfort, strengths, joy, and creativity. But it can also bring us into great danger from bigoted minds threatened by the faiths of others. I believe we can show some of our spiritual strengths here with out getting into bitter debate about whose faith is better. In the past bigoted people have felt driven to change other people’s minds by force if necessary. People were burned a live. Right now people in some Muslim countries are severely punished by not behaving as required by the religious people in charge.
I believe that someone who feels a need to harangue others to change their beliefs should be using a web site where they are comfortable and not creating discomfort for others.
Though I live out in a rural area people do come to my door to tell me I’m not saved and need to visit their church. I politely send them off some times with a fresh cucumber.
Inside my home I control what I’m exposed to by selecting certain computer web sites like this one. When someone harangues us on religion I learn to avoid anything that person writes. But that’s not fair because the person may be wise, or funny, or very interesting on another topic.
Maybe people with a strong desire to tell us they are saved or preach could be limited to a separate segment just for them where they can preach to each other. They can damn us all to hell there without it getting to us.
In this general spiritual segment we can voice beautiful thoughts, ideas, or helpful guidance as expressed by all kinds of people. It can be a wonderful place which is a source of comfort and strength devoid of insult or danger and I think that is what we should be able to find here.

Why should some people be segregated to share or contribute to this forum? Why is it some people can share and everyone is cool about it. When the next one comes they are told they are preaching when they share. I do not say I am right and you are wrong. I say this is what I believe. If you do not want to read what "everyone" believes why do YOU come to this section? I do not mind reading what everyone else has to say. It is educational. I think everyone needs to be tolerant of the many different beliefs here. Make EVERYONE feel wecome, not just a few. I like being here. I like participating in the forum, where ever and whatever the topic thread I desire. I would not want to make anyone not feel wecome. I want to become friends with everyone, but there are some here it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out they do not like me because we do not see eye to eye. I am willing to set aside the differences. Any takers? :)

No one should ever spit on our holy books!

But you don't have the right to damn anyone to hell either!
In the Orient a considerable part of my work is getting people of different cultures to work together to solve a common health threat. It’s very common for people to get off track. Someone will say when we Moguls (Muslims) conquered and ruled here Or we Hindus were in charge . . . Well you can guess how that goes over with Muslims, Christians and Hindus who are the recipients. And it’s very hard to get people to cool down afterwards.
Any discussions of spirituality should leave secular religious issues outside. It’s quite threatening for someone to invite people to share a discussion of spirituality with the opening statement that everyone who doesn’t agree with you is damned to Hell.
Threatening statements have no place here and should be banned or isolated.

Hallarian,
I have a question for you. I am just curious. Where do you stand with God, Jesus and the Bible? Do you believe the Bible is true, cover to cover, or just a bunch of bull? I want to understand where you are coming from. I would never Damn anyone, but there is scripture where the Bible does. I would love to hear what you have to say.

I believe in God and I believe that much of the Bible is true. I keep the bible on my desk and refer to it frequently. People from all over the world write me and often say The Christian Bible says such and such. Often the Bible is misquoted so I need to look stuff up. I most often refer question about the Bible to a friend living a few miles away. A minister, I find he is much better informed. Questions about the Koran, I refer to a Minister in Anchorage who knows that Holy Book far better than I ever will. Do I believe the Bible Cover to Cover, NO! The Bible as we read it today was assembled from the three different Greek versions in 200 AD. Is the Bible Bull, Heavens No, it is not. Much of the Bible was doctored by people who wanted their point of view accepted as the only truth. I doubt if we will ever know the whole truth but we don't have to because God will take care of us as long as we live proper lives and take care of each other as we are supposed to.

I don't know if there ever was a single book that had the whole truth. Like I dais I don't worry about that. I do worry about nice people who get so mislead that they will persecute or even kill others in the name of their beliefs.

I felt compelled to do some homework on the origin of the Bible when reading different theories of its content, authors, and authentisity. I am not a speed reader, and being a mom I already had my hands full. That is part of the reason my rebuttal has been slow coming.
I have been reading in: How we got the Bible by Neil R. Lightfoot, Evidence that demands a verdict by Josh Mc Dowell, Know why you believe by Paul E. Little, and Reasons sceptics should consider christianity by Josh Mc Dowell and Don Stewart.

It has been interesting reading. I have also talked to several people who all went to various Bible colleges throughout the continental United States. All said the same thing, that the theories I told them about that I was given here are not taught in the Colleges that teach about the Bible. So I will keep reading. This has been very educational.
Trinity, I have to agree with you wholeheartedly.:)
