What would The Duke think of Steven's current films?
I don't believe that he would think much of them. I think
The Duke would have loved Steven's earlier films but would
have been extremely dissappointed in his later films.
As for "Marker" and "Urban Justice".....guess we'll just have
to wait and see if they have been worth waiting for!

Please don't call him "Johnny"! It sounds....... so............
disrespectful. Or maybe it's just me. ;) I still hold John with the greatest
respect and admiration, even now, some 28 years after his death.
Marion Michael Morrison we'll never forget you! He was, after all, a great
American!
God bless,

i think ol' duke would be jealous and admirous of Steven Seagal's success. Plus, i think dukey would want to challenge Steven Seagal in a fight, uh that is if john wayne were young and alive?

Did you ever notice in the film the shootist, the director must have used a mirror effect in the scene between harry morgan and john wayne's exchange of words at widow roger's boarding house. because duke's hairpiece is on backwards? he kind of resembles colonel sanders of kentucky fried chicken in this movie too with his mustache and watered bags around his eyes. tuckered out old man.

I doubt it. Maybe his early success but the Duke was making popular theatrical releases right up to the end. As much as I enjoy most of Steven's films, you can't even begin to compare Steven's DTV work to Wayne's later movies. I also don't think Steven will ever be as highly regarded for his film work as Wayne still is.

He was, after all, a great American!

As much as I like a lot of Wayne's films, I was disappointed years ago to find out that he was a strong supporter of HUAC (House Un-American Activities Committee) during the 'Red Scare' years in the US. HUAC and those who supported it destroyed the careers of over 300 actors, directors, writers etc because of their political beliefs or because they refused to name names when called to testify during the hearings. Wayne bragged in an interview years after High Noon director Carl Foreman had been blacklisted that "...It's (High Noon) the most un-American thing I've seen in my whole life! The last thing in the picture is ol' Coop putting the U.S. marshal's badge under his foot and stepping on it. I'll never regret having helped run Foreman out of this country!". He also made the anti-communist propaganda film Big Jim McLain where he played a HUAC investigator. For four years during this period, Wayne also served as president of the anti-communist Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals.

I recently discovered that Dukey was a Mason. I believe Masons' were similar to the Knights of Columbus or Knights of Templar. Interesting.

There's one thing about John Wayne as an actor though...I think he'll always be revered, and quite rightly so, as the greatest Westerns star in the history of motion pictures. I can't think of another actor who starred in as many classic Westerns as Wayne did.

As to whether Wayne would have envied Seagal....? No way. I don't wish to insult Steven but I think even he would have to honestly acknowledge that John Wayne was in a whole other league as a movie star. The only other modern star I can think of who comes anywhere Wayne as an icon is Clint Eastwood.

Westerns was the Duker's afficianado no doubt on that level. But that's where the buck stops fakeshemp. Wayne could never have pulled off the most 'intelligent persona' roles that Seagal has established, it is Seagal's niche! In todays movie market, there's no one in movies but Steven Seagal who can who can blend in with just about any level in society in so many different cultures and races of peoples and be so successful at it. Steven Seagal was and is iconic when "Above The Law" hit the theaters. I think the Duke would be surprised that Seagal has defended the 'little man' and beats up corrupted elements just as good as the Duke did, and yet be better at that towering role over other screen performers than Duke himself would be or even hope to be, if Duke was alive in Seagal's time. Seagal is the big or small screen icon of our generation.

It does appear that Duke Wayne was better at one thing in westerns in comparison to Steven Seagal. Duke has blue eyes and probably attracts most of the bule eyed anglo saxons on all of the continents. Whereas, Steven Seagal has brown eyes, and pulls in the remaining amount of brown eyed Indo-eurpean fans, plus a a scant few anglo-saxon fans. Plus, Duke came into films at a time when westerns were profitable to Wayne's cinematic career and rightly so making Dukey the "King of the Cowboys" for who knows how many more decades to come?

Now Don, you are pushing it

Put your mouth, your fingers and your keyboard away - no more trolling today

AND, everyone knows The King of the Cowboys was Roy Rogers - no other, never will be. Even Duke Wayne settled for a lesser title and was proud of it.

He (Wayne) was a man's man in the 40's, 50's and into the 60's. He made wonderful films for many genre's and is NOT to be compared, aligned or held up to scrutiny with any other actor, star out there. He was one of a kind and let him be. That's final!

Seagal is Seagal, equally so as far as his work, his image and persona goes. Let him be as well and STOP trying to force his body of work into a cubbyhole in comparison with others. He is as he is and that is that as well!

In plain English, Don - drop it.

Oooh!

My Mom would never let me stay in with a strange man on a first date - sorry it has to be a sit down, elegant dinner in a restaurant - like to dance?

Red dress with a full flowing skirt, four inch heels and the samba, cha-cha, or just some plain ole dancin' for fun!

I'm off around the floor ta da, ta da!

Myst!

Yuh ever notice how john wayne's eyes appear to be 'closed' in all of his movies from the 1960's and 1970's? that's alot of water bags on top and underneath the eyes. what'd the dukey just get out of a boxing match before steppin on to the film set
