Steven Seagal is Submerged Source: Emmett/Furla Films Wednesday, January 14, 2004

Emmett/Furla Films Productions Corporation has announced that it has completed negotiations with international action star Steven Seagal to top-line an additional picture which is slated to begin principal photography on April 1st.

Anthony Hickox will direct Submerged, which Emmett/Furla Films' Randall Emmett and George Furla will produce with Paul de Souza. Colin Green wrote the screenplay based on a story by himself and Paul de Souza.

Co-chairs Randall Emmett and George Furla stated: "We are happy to, once again, be working with Steven Seagal. He has always delivered solid, exciting performances for us and we believe coupling him with 'Submerged' will make for an action-packed film that will hopefully appeal to a broad audience. This project is the perfect fit for Family Room Entertainment."

Following Submerged, Emmett/Furla Films will produce a second picture with Steven Seagal entitled, Repentance.

April 1, thats my Birthday. I'm turning 26 :) :) But the best news is that www.comingsoon.net only puts up news about Theatrical released movies..never straight to dvd/video movies.

Its awesp,e that he will be making a THEATRICAL RELEASE movie. If Seagal cuts out those wires and comptuer effects it will be a hit. Now adays all action movies and martial arts movies are the same thing, wires, computers, special effects.~~~ Where is the real stuff Bruce Lee brought to us in the 70's?
Anyway if Seagal doesn't use all those computer effects crap for his fight scenes than I believe the public will be interested to witness Seagal's true and real techniques.

I think the wire, the computer effects are a sad necessity of modern day film. To film a fight scene which has to follow a certain pattern - ie, everyone flat out except our hero, and to do it for real would require many more cameras time and money, something that is just not budgeted for in todays films when there is a cheap alternative.

I don't know whether wire work is really a cheap alternative, though. I think it's the filmmakers' false assumption that flashy feats of fighters flying through the air are what the audience thinks it wants to see. They - the filmmakers - don't seem to understand that martial arts done by real martial artists is poetry in motion, and can give the audience the juice that it wants without resorting to special effects.

Computer effects done well should be completely invisible and seamless, and unfortunately are very easy to do poorly, as in OFAK.

-TD, who thinks wires have their place but not in Steven Seagal films

Wire work aint cheap thats for sure, but wire work and computer effectsare hurting the martial arts in movies, especially SEAGAL'S movies.

Well, I agree natural is very impressive, and Steven has the skill to do them all without wires...
However, I don't mind the special effects, either...
I liked the car jump scene in Exit Wounds a lot, I don't know, but am guessing it was difficult, if not impossible without the wires...
I am so impressed but what Steven does, even though I know that realistically some of it is done with wires or doubles...
The fighting he does is top notch quality, smooth, graceful, and most powerful in IMHO, and I know it takes a lot of practice, talent, dedication and skill, and I appreciate and admire that soooo soooo much...
I congratulate him for a job well done, and I am always very amazed by him...
This last film was very different, and very, very good, I like it so much, I think it was great!
Dearest Steven, you are the very best, and you'll always be number one with me, my darling! :)

The true Martial Arts following is very small , as is the true Seagal following by comparison to the whole movie audience following. For a film to be a commercial success it MUST cater for a much wider audience, and at the same time try to some extent to placate the minority group followings. A sad fact of life in todays world - the wire and phony jumps etc are here to stay!

Just leave this stuff to the Matrix( I don't mean it was a bad film) where Keanu Reevez could do those magic tricks even the way Bruce Lee couldn't.If Steven doesn't want another Matrix sequel he should go back to reality,as far from those a la MTV tricks as possible.....Gosh,it was in the Exit Wounds interview when the stunt choreographer Dion Lam said that the audience isn't interested in what is real...You can grab this guy and tie him up.I think he was wrong.

Sometimes creating a little fantasy ( such as flying) can be entertaining . I think if it is done well it can be successful.Who should do it or when it should be done is not something I have thought about.

Even if they don't go to the theater I will still be soooo ready to see them...
I will never, ever tire of watching Steven, because he is different in every film!

Exactly, thats what kept me going all these years. If he was the same every time I would have grown tired of him verry verry quick.

I really think the wire aspect is hurting Seagal, I mean you have a 6"4 200 lb some martial arts expert flying around like Superman. Nope! Sorry, Seagal like I said you are talented to join in the crowd, dont be a follower now, set your own limits as you changed the martial arts industry when Above The Law was released in 1988.

Otherwise Seagal is like a big flying ninja...Oops...I'm not gonna stand near if he decides to land in my area...that might be too dangerous if a 200 pound ninja does that kind of thing.:D

Looks like there's no room for Genghis Khan in there (TD breathes a sigh of relief). Maybe he's just writing and producing GK and has the sense not to star in it himself. But Kenneth Annakin as director of an epic...? no, no, no.... (shudders).

Of course, we won't know until we see what gets released over the next year and a half.
