I'd just like to point out that Seagal has made several movies like Narc, poorly edited and murkily shot movies with bad acting and overly complicated nonsensical storylines. That's not exactly something that's missing in his career.
Seems like we must have seen a different movie mindisamirror. Sure Seagal has made films similar to
Narc. However I would not say that it was poorly edited and if it was murkily shot then it was intentionally done to give the film a gritty realistic feel. Another factor in this is the very low budget of only $7.5m, lower than the budgets on nearly all of Seagal's DTV films, yet
Narc was still able to get a cinema release. Indeed with the exception of
Ticker (2001) and
A Dangerous Man (2009), all of Seagal's films since
Half Past Dead (2002) have had budgets greater than
Narc, with some like
Out of Reach (2004) having budgets of up to $20m, yet there have been no cinema releases. I would also not say that
Narc had bad acting, with Ray Liotta in particular giving one of the best performances of his career. This is especaially true when you look at some of the acting in Seagal's films of the past decade. The same can be said of your point about the nonsensical storylines. I never had trouble folloowing
Narc, yet I am still not fully sure of all the plot twists in
The Foreigner (2003) for example. It seems that the majority of the people on the IMDb would also agree with me, with
Narc scoring a rating of 7.3, with the highest rating for a Seagal film since his last cinema release being 5.4 for
Urban Justice (2007), and the lowest being 2.6 for
Attack Force (2006). I therefore stand by my original point that Seagal should work with Julius Nasso again based partly on the fact he produced a film like
Narc.
