Submerged - review

"You always want everyone to hate the movies you did"

Yes, I suppose he does head in to that direction quite a bit. But aren't you doing the same with your eye catching Banner? Which actually sounds like you are unsure of your own feelings. And with this trying to convince not so much the others but yourself. I think both of you are trying to get other members to share your feelings. So I wouldn't spread the blame around. You, and I, and everyone else is guilty of the same crimes. Pointless to throw fingers out.

I try... But when Steven gets deeper in the DTV-hole it's hard being a fan.
:D That's okay, Robert. :)
At least you WATCHED the movie before giving your opinion on it. :D
And that I respect. :)

Yes, I am certainly looking forward to having an hour and a half taken away from me that I can never get back. Its on my list of chores to complete :)

Another Amusing Review From Amazon:

TO MANY COATS

I really cant add to much to the reviews here. Its one bad flick.
Seagal sits in this movie alot, he mumbles in this movie alot and he wears very heavy leather coats one on top of the other even though thier in the Bahamas. I thick the Vodka bottle and hot dog tray were always close at hand. He looks so bad in his scenes, like the director beat him up before going on set! There was alot of dubbing in this flick and poor segall swings his arms around like a big bloated baloon. I think in his next movie he will lay on his side the whole time. The girl was a beauty though. But worst of all is in the beginning of the movie a little spy plane is flying across a dam. It was soooo fake! I thought I would see a hand holding it in the air. thumbs way down.

Submerged is released in Holland today. I just watched the movie and i think it's Seagal's best one since Exit Wounds. We all know the bad thing of the movie: the voice dubbing! But the movie itself is really good. I loved the different locations and especially the action scenes. There aren't a lot of Seagal-fights (2) but the fights are looking good! Very old school indeed! The movie is never boring and I also like the other actors like Vinnie Jones!
My favorite part is the ending when my buddy is driving in his BMW, hits the helicopter, crashes into the building, comes out of his car, shoot the guys with a shotgun and then fights with that man at the elevator. In that scene Steven looks very old school! I also liked the part with Gary Daniels: "cocksucking mother****er"! Just great!!
I think Steven did a great job with this movie. I can't wait to see Today You Die! Bring it on!!!!!!

I don't think so.. I can not say his best movie since Exit Wounds... it would not be fair to Exit Wounds.. But Submerged was not bad..

I see Nick is as pompous as ever. Who said writers had more brains than the rest of us?:D
I will give Seagal a chance.Yes he's heavy now and movies not as good, but do we settle for what he does now? Or do we expect Above The Law?
We all know them days are gone.

Express your opinion - dont start personally attacking other members with name calling. Not really doing alot for your argument is it?

And can i ask you why you think the Above The Law days are gone?

I don't think it's name calling by saying a writing is pompous,

I just got home and find people who no longer like Steven's work are still harping at us that still enjoy his films. Why don't they just find a web site of some one they like and move there.

Is it so necessary for them to keep repeating themselves?

I agree electronic arguments are quite pointless. And time consuming. The last one drained the energy out of me and the victory wasn't even very sweet. I dislike getting in to them but when someone starts with personal attacks I am forced to.

I think you and Serena misunderstood me when we had our initial argument. Did I suggest I was more superior because I was a writer? Perhaps I hinted I was more superior as an individual :) (Ah the cunningness and deceitfulness of the smiley face). What I stated above was merely that people like myself and TD are careful about what movies we watch. A writer does more research than your average individual. We do this because we do not have time to waste on watching lackluster efforts.

I know those days are far behind him. But if people like Jean Claude Van Damme can make such impressive comebacks why can't Seagal? It would never be on the level of his earlier classics but it would be quite close. That's the problem with most people. They are happy with what he gives them. Steven throws a bone and you eat it up. I would like a bone with some meat on it. Exit Wounds was made four years ago. Even Belly of the Beast isn't quite old being a 2003 effort. Why can't he make a film that is in the same vein as those two, except slightly better? He is still capable.

I think I will stay here. I will stay and wait to see if my expectations are changed by his upcoming films. Repetitiveness is something that will always be present on message boards. Do not worry through I will try to be more spontaneous with my posts being a writer :)

I think one of the problems with the repetitivness is not that its people saying the same thing for one film - its the fact its the same problems for every film so the same topics come up again and again - weight, stunts doubles, dubbing, lack of action etc. etc. Seagal could easily change all of that.

Here's a thought equal to that of mad and insane scientist. What if the Fans rebel for a change and do not purchase his next DVD. I mean wouldn't such an Act send him a message? Maybe I am being too philosophical and naive. I mean after his next two Projects he has a serious movie with Bey Logan. That will cannot be a failure but what will happen afterwards? Will he go back to his lower standards? Perhaps a taste of being in a superior Production will stay with him. Let him savor the taste and come back to quality films.

How about if I add this comment......how many times does certain members need to post their movie review for the SAME movie? Especially if they didn't like it the first time

Well can't the same be sad for the Positive Reviews. Hofmae posted "Its OK" a numerous amount of times. As a counterattack for each Negative Review. So as far as I am concerned we all do this.

I actually agree with you Nick, Submerged was a bad film, no doubt about it. Members can have their own opinions but how much worse does the film have to be so the members can't give it high ratings like 8/10. Geeze..

In my book On Deadly Ground was 8/10 and that was a pretty good film!
