The feelings are mutual Glimmer. I am constantly phoning Blockbuster(My Local Store) to check if it has arrived yet. Every five minutes to be specific. I even have them on speed dial now. I basically sleep with my phone. It never leaves my trembling hand from all the excitement. I lay in my bed awake and have dreams of watching this film finally.

That's what is known as sarcasm ;) I am quite sure it will be at my Blockbuster soon enough through.

I understand your predicament, man. Working security in HMV, I check the computer database every day to see when it will be released... beads of sweat form on my brow, as my anticipation grows. I have a feeling that this movie is going to make my backbone quiver! I dream of Seagal's dubbed Cajun accent.

Submerged just got released in Australia, and of course, I ran to the videoshop to hire it. I shouldn't have. What a crap film. For starters there's the cheap sounding music, hard to believe it was composed by the man who scored the excellent Wake of Death. Then there was Gary Daniels AWFUL performance. I know the guy can throw down good, but he's such a bad actor. Then there's the biggest problem with the film:

Steven Seagal!

Where do I begin? The Cajun accent. It made Jeff Bridges's Irish accent in Blown Away sound authentic. It's that bad! In some scenes it's like Seagal forgot he was was supposed to be Cajun, so he just calls people Alligator to make up for it, please!

His constant use of body doubles for scenes where he's just walking seriously hurts the film. There's a scene when Seagal and his team climb out of a helicopter and you can see his face and it's not him, it's his bloody double.

There's also the unwelcomed return of his voice double too. Obviously the producers couldn't be bothered looking for a person who sounded remotely like Steven, because in some scenes he sounds like Alvin from the chipmunks.

His wardrobe is also another worrying issue. Why does he always dress like he's filming a sequel to On Deadly Ground. I like to wear t-shirts and jeans a lot, but if I was making a movie where I was supposed to be the world's best spy/secret agent/cop, I wouldn't wear them.

Submerged's plot also stinks. It's a direct rip off of The Manchurian Candidate and what was the point of the whole submarine bit? It takes up a whole 15 minutes of screen time.

The special effects were also laughable, I swear to God you could see the strings holding the spy plane at the start. I was really surprised by how bad this movie was. Anthony Hickox has made some entertaining films in the past, but this has to be his worst and close behind Out of Reach as Steven's worst.

Fingers crossed for Today You Die, but something tells me we'll be seeing more of the body double and hearing more of the Alvin voice over guy. I've noticed that Seagal doesn't bother to turn up to do looping (dubbing) for his movies that have post production done in Europe. Since Black Dawn had its post done in LA, maybe Seagal was kind enough to turn up and say his own lines. We can live in hope I guess.

Submerged 1 out of 5 stars.

Blown Away is actually a decent film ;) Tommy Lee Jones barely made one bad film until lately in his career.

How were the Fights? Was it as satisfying as watching one of his older Films?

Well I just came back from playing billiards and stopped at Blockbuster with my friend. I almost instantly spotted a row of Submerged. I believe 6-7 copes and all but one taken out. Poor people are going to have their expectations crushed like the large flaming submarine might have crushed a drowning crew member ;)

Now all I have to do is patiently await its relocation to the wall of Previously Viewed Movies :) The wait is literally killing me. Or maybe I am just exaggerating. I am other things to worry about and taken care off. I am sure it will appear there in the next week as soon as I am done with my Screenplay :)

submerged
i got the dvd today
on its release date here in australia i couldnt wait to get home and watch it,
as i was expecting something rather dodgy as i have heard most of it is dubbed and not much action blah blah blah
i rather enjoyed the movie, i thought as a movie it did quite well
sure there was some minor dodgy acting....but generally everyone did quite a good job,
the only major downer,,,,the dubbing, at least it wasnt as bad as out of reach,
after a while i got used to the dubbing....seeing most of the movie was his dubbed voice,
on a personal note on steven, you could tell he wasnt doing much running....his face seemed a bit fatter...and when he did talk he sure did mumble his words quite a bit....
but apart from that....he did some good acting in this movie...i enjoyed it quite a bit...not one of his top movies but quite a decent movie

7.5/8.0 out of 10
quite enjoyable good to see him making a decent movie with some other actors in it...vinnie jones did a great job

nick, you said that if van damn cant make good movies lose weight and all that...why cant seagal...easy....because not everyone is the same your expecting him to do what van damn is....or other ppl his age....

sure its annoying that he's still chubby got some more weight on..and it would be nice for him to lose it..thats what we all want...but its seagal's body let him do what he wants to him self....if your such a critic dont go buying his movies...

when i got submerged i asked the guy at ezy dvd if he had it..this was the convo
"can i help you mate"
yeah hav u got submerged
"what the steven seagal movie?"

"i didnt beleive i'd actually sell one of these"
aint you supposed to be selling your movies
"mate i have been studying film for 4 years if people want to bring this kind of rubbish out i wont advertise it"

That Dialogue makes me think it was an interesting Conversation. Francis Ford Coppola should have used some of this Dialogue for the Gene Hackman movie ;)

Jokes aside I think he was trying to warn you mate. Don't hold it against him :) I mean this isn't ten dollars we are talking about. Who in their right mind spends forty dollars on his Direct To Video Releases? What is on my list in terms of purchases worth that much money is Once Upon A Time In The West and Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Also for slightly less money maybe thirty dollars I need to purchase the science fiction thriller Primer. And then for about ten dollars some more of Woody Allen's finely crafted films.

That there is my list of purchase ranging from 10-40 Dollars. Submerged is on there with tax coming out to about eight or nine dollars.

P.S A slight correction since I think you misinterpreted my words. Jean Claude Van Damme can in fact act. He showed slight signs of that in the 96 Ringo Lam Film Maximum Risk. He proved that he could finally act in 98 with by starring in the Remake of March or Die called Legionnaire. After seeing what significant changes his partnership with Ringo Lam had on his career he decided to collaborate on more films. And that's when we saw Replicant and In Hell hit the DVD Shelves through both were worthy of Theatrical Releases in the US.

As far as his weight well he has been in great shape from the last video clips/pictures I have seen. I think they were of his training for the Bloodsport Sequel.

Nothing is impossible mate. No, I am not going to say if you put your mind to it anything can be accomplished. That's not true. But Seagal is capable of loosing weight. He has for Belly of the Beast. It is hard to tell whether he has gained or lost weight for Today You Die. The Cover Art is deceiving. People keep making excuses for him and I understand that. I just cannot anymore.

Hey guyssssss!!!!It´s a good movie to enjoy.I´ve bought and I´ve seen three times in english and I like it.
Yes, yes, It isn´t Exit Wounds or a beggining great era of Steven, but I love the fight with Gary Daniels and the final with the big black guy.Very Seagal, very shorts, but fine.
The only bad thing it´s the overdubbing and the bad CGI and the scale model planes. You know, the low budget.
Now, I´m waiting for the spanish version.I hope any extras.I´ll tell you guys.

Ah!In www.bartonfilms.com of filmax I´ve seen that maybe will be a theatrical release of Belly of the Beast in Spain, as Venganza Ciega(Out for a kill). Two years later, but maybe I could see Steven in the big screen again. The movies look better in the theather.

Love everybody

I watched SUBMERGED :)

Hi everyone. I'm after watching new Seagal movie called Submerged. It was fantastic experience becouse he make another step forward after Into the Sun. But it's not really Steven movie becouse he is not on the screen always like it was in his first movies. But I think it's good. His role Cody as a leader of a group of mercenaries is great.
The story is simple but it's enought for an action style. There are no mutants. The whole thing is about mind control and assassination and money. Cody and his team gets another chance to get out of prison and complete a mission that is very hard but they don't know this from the beginning.
The fight scenes are good Seagal is back to his brutal and fast fights with many enemies. The rest of his crew is really good too. Many gun fights and explosions.
The Gary Daniels confrontation with our hero Cody is great I watched every Daniels movie he made and I can't wait to see this fight. I can compare this fight with the fight from Under Siege with Tommy Lee Jenes (there are knives too).
The dubbing is back. Not so bad but it's in 80 % of his dialogues. I don't know why he speaks and there is only one line in his speech dubbed. It's a mistery.
The final opinion is great. I could write more and more but I don't have time now. If Seagal will keep his performence Today You Die will be a real HIT.

There sure as hell wasnt many figgtscenes in terms of Steven Seagal & martial arts  All in all there were 2 verry verry short fightscenes. That was about it  I miss the good old days ..

I mean "many enemies" when I speak about a fight in front of tank and the rest are 3. But I think the main reson of making movies Is not the number of fight scenes in my opinion.

When Steven Seagal made his initial film to break in to the industry it was a personal film which showcased his talents on screen. I am sure the paycheck then was quite microscopic. His follow up films were made to further pave his way into the industry. He also made then for the Fans rather than the money. Perhaps in the midst of Arnold and Stallone he wanted to show the world a more realistic action hero. His Direct To Video Releases are done for the cold cash. Many people refuse to face this but we all know it. But in the end the point stands. His films were always about the Action. The Action was the focal point of them. I mean do you think he makes films to showcase his acting abilities? They are quite minimal.
